Title: S5 - Who's up for it?
Post by: Foggy on March 11, 2011, 16:57:21 PM
Thought I"d start the thread to see who"s up for this season

Although we had a reasonable amount of players registered, why don"t we put names to this thread to evaluate our attendance!

I take it that Ant is up for a captains performance again?

Great news Tony.  Welcome to Birmingham Poker Club, hope you have a great season.

Please remember the rules, once you have posted your username and joined a club, you cannot change clubs during the season.

Come on you brummies.   8)

In answer to your question Chris,i think its time for someone else to take up the mantel.I pushed hard season one to recrute personnel, many registered there intent to play, however,in reality we had to rely on 6 regulars. This simply isn"t enough in the current format. We have done ok,we have quality over quantity, but you only have to look at Walsall,Nottingham,Solent and Luton to see quantity rules the day.We are in the unfortunate position of having Walsall in too close a proximty, many of there players could/should play for us but choose not to.

maybe we should merge teams.... would there be any reason why we cant, i no me and Maecel joined Walsall in error thinking everyone else was so wattaya think ... merge forces and rule the division for evermore

I think a merger would be a good idea - having two teams representing geographies that are so close to each other is a bit daft, and makes recruitment pretty difficult. The balance of player volume is hugely in favour of Walsall - B"ham has a very small nucleus of 4/5 players that play regularly - kind of means we have no hope of winning anything... and any new players that join will always favour Walsall for this reason.

Leigh - can this happen??

I deffo think it should it was all a mistake that we became fragmented ( split for the thickies) in the first place other areas have been allowed to consolidate (look it up thickies ) so why cant we  woop

If we looked to merge them, we"d have to call the new club "Birmingham Poker Club"

If the Walsall captain and team were happy with that, then I"ll look into it further.

I do agree, that you are geographically very close, but when we set them up, it was done around casino locations.

I will see what the Walsall reply is to this thread.

LOL - would have been easier to just say No then :)

I will see what the Walsall reply is to this thread.

As this thread is labelled as Birmingham, and most Walsall players seem to think they will catch some sort of Brummie disease by reading a Birmingham thread, most won"t actually see this suggestion, let alone comment on it ;)

If you allow most of the best players in APAT to merge into one team, this might well be the outcome:

merge forces and rule the division for evermore

Sounds like an excellent idea.

Personally i joined Walsall as it was the closest and most of my BCPC team mates played for them but there are many of my team mates playing for Birmingham too and i"d much rather be playing on the same side as them than against them.

Having them onside would make us an even more formidable team which can only be a good thing.

How about we just change the name to Black Country Poker Club? That"ll certainly get Brian onside.  :)

Given that it"s about 15 minutes from Walsall to Birmingham anyone who lives near one clearly lives near the other therefore they"d still be playing for a local club. Isn"t it down to the players to choose which team they play for?

I hear what you are saying John, and it"s not their decision to make, I"m simply getting some opinions.

In this case, Walsall and Birmingham are so close together, and Birmingham only get a handful of players each week, it would sensible to review the possibility.

Very similar to when we merged Southampton and Portsmouth, or the very recent merger of North and South London.

We started off with 30 locations, but knew some wouldn"t get as many players as others, it"s just being practical.

It"s for APAT to decide the structure and then the players can choose their teams.

Indeed, so it"s perfectly valid for Walsall players to join Birmingham or vice versa. But if all the Walsall players join Brum then it"s effectively a merger as there"s no point in having a Walsall team with no players.

I would agree with that, there are only a couple of clubs where I would consider doing this, having been sat with a map of the UK and Ireland for a few minutes.  Birmingham and Walsall is one, and Newcastle and Sunderland is the other (Like that will ever happen  ;) )

Well if you"re combining Sunderland and Newcastle then you need to consider merging England and Scotland for the Team Championship.

Best of luck!   ;)

If a merger is going to be a cause for consternation, we (Bham players) could just choose to move to Walsall club for S5?  I presume we have until the start of the first round to declare allegiance to a club?

FWIW - I am equidistant to both Walsall and Birmingham

I dont mind what were called as long as we merge its best for all of us why dont we call ourselves wallbirm or birmwall or as Andy said BCPC simples init

If the Birmingham players want to join The Champions of Walsall, I have no problems with that. The majority of both Walsall AND Birmingham already play for BCPC anyway. We at Walsall won"t be joining Birmingham as far as I know though as we have no need to.
Hopefully, the players who agree with Ant"s sentiments will decide to come over to us anyway. If it has to be an amalgamation (sorry Matt...there"s that word again !) then why not call us Black Country ?
Queen Victoria Christened the region that so I am sure it would be good enough for APAT !

Watch out the poachers are about, Techno will no doubt be around with his cheque book in a mo

I think the merger / closing of Brum is the correct way to go, and will vote with my feet with the majority of my mates in the Birmingham Club

If the two teams merge then personally a new name should be agreed.A Walsall club was only chosen because of the fact there happens to be a G casino there.I"m sure the original plan of the league"s formation was to roll it out live at some stage hence the reason to choose your "local" club.A quick glance Bri at our pokerstars home game reveals that only one person actually lives in Walsall. If there is no plan in the future to ever roll the league out live i"m still not quite sure why we have geographical constraints.

FWIW, "Black country" fine by me.
