Post by: Chipaccrual on July 15, 2011, 19:37:31 PM
APAT are very pleased to confirm that Paul McGuinness (http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1941) will once again captain the team from Wales, who will be looking to defend their World Team Championship title.  Wales are also the current APAT Home Internationals Team Champions, and have to start as one of the favourites for this event, with a who"s who of APAT Champions to select from.

Hi everybody,
Well whatever people may think, this has been quite a tough decision. Players showing awesome results over the past twelve months. The Apat ethos of giving as many as possible a chance to play, and a few more all went into the pot before my final decision.

That is to keep the existing winning team from last years World team Championship. Yes these guys also deserve a chance, a chance to hold onto their present Title, or at least to try to defend it.

Should I have picked a new team and flopped, well questions would be asked, ie why didn"t you play the same team? etc.
I am sure questions will be asked anyway, and everyone is entitled to an opinion. Ultimately this one lies with me. This is my outcome and I hope (know) that we will have the support of all Our fellow Welshmen.

Sincerest apologies for anybody wishing to apply for the squad, I know it means another twelve months before anybody else will have the same chance. Should anyone wish to forward any constructive comments, please feel free to do so.
It will not affect the decision that has been made, but we may:

* Learn something for next year, whoever the captain maybe.
* Give players a chance to Air their feeling, should they wish to.
* If you wish to pm Me, this would also be ok and kept private as expected.

Thank You to Apat for the opportunity of taking part in a marvellous format of poker. Very well setup and ran, being what we have come to exoect. They have set very high standards for themselves, and seem to deliver time and again. I am sure with the extension of countries entering this year, that it can and will be better.

Oh and one more thing for anybody new or unaware, the Wales Squad is as follows:

                                                         Herbert Dylan
                                                         McGuinness Paul (Capt)
                                                         Owston Dan
                                                         Rudling-Smith Richard

Thanks again all, hope to see you at DTD in August. We will all be doing our utmost to fulfill Wales potential and repay the Honour bestowed on us.

Paul Mac :)

Great Choice"s - Congrats Guy"s.

I believe This to be the right selection, although with some of the players available to Paul it must have been a really difficult job. The existing World Champions have to defend it, they earned the right last year and at the Home Nations event. I also know how proud all four of these guy"s will be to be representing Wales again, as indeed they should be.

It would be great of you guy"s were able to repeat and with this team there is obviously a really good chance that will happen. Let"s hope the cards break even, that is all this team will need to win it.

See you all there and win please.

Rodders

Just like to say how proud i am to be asked to represent the Welsh team again. None of us took selection for granted - there are many other worthy contenders who could walk into the team without a question. I know that Paul agonised over this decision. Thanks for all the support- especially Al who is always an inspiration to us!

Hi everybody, a very big thank you for all the kind comments. :)

With only 11 days to go to the big kick off. I just thought I would let You know, that all is not as quiet as it seems.

Like those ducks or swans, all may be calm on the surface, however underneath(or behind the scenes) there is a lot more going on than meets the eye.

We"re trying to gauge it so that Our enthusiasm peeks at the right time(ie 25th August onwards) and will give Our very best at Nottingham. We really would like to carry on in the fashion of the last twelve months.

Which brings me to handing out a Huge Thank You to "Rodders" who stepped in at Newcastle for me and did us Welsh folk very Proud. We are all endebted to him, and thanks for your full support again at Nottingham Rodders, we will see you at the bar......Hehe ;D

I would personally and openly like to Thank on behalf of Wales, Rudders, Dan and Dylan for taking up this challenge with me again this year.

I look forward to seeing all the other Welsh boys at DTD. Good luck in the all the other events, if we can emulate last year, Wales will remain a happy place. Just a reminder of what was achieved at last years championship by Welsh folk:

Main event, individual gold medal winner, and Silver medal winner. Plus 33rd place finisher.
Stud Silver medallist.
Heads up Bronze medal winner.
Omaha final tablist.
Horse medal bubble
Team event Gold Medalists.

Also throughout the Year,We had a Gold medal at Swansea,  we had three from four left at the final table for the £20,000 sponsorship deal, eventually going to Our fellow Welshman. Another Gold medal win in April for the only person to win two Apat Majors. Then Mr final table was at it again, and was so unlucky taking silver and almost becoming first to win two. Also the Home internationals brought us another Gold Medal finish for the Teams. Online brought us various top finishes also. Away from Apat, we have had some very strong results in the likes of the UKIPT, cashes and F.T"ers. Not to mention a certain body taking down a deepstack tourney at "The Venetian".  So you can see from the above, that my decision to play the same team @ DTD this year really was anything but  easy.

So I hope we all have a good championship, and would very much like to see new faces doing well, to add to the mix and make next years captain"s decision even harder...............Basically.......................

                                                          "Cymru am Byth"

Apolgies for any omissions of any other achievments throughout the year. 2010/11 really was the year of the Welsh. Having set the bar so high, it really will be difficult to repeat. Still we do have an abundance of talent and i hope we can continue. As stated, we do have some young raw talented players coming through. I personally would like to see a few more pushing this year aswel. So c"mon guys, you gotta be innit to win it.!!!

Good luck and best wishes

Paul Mac :)

Right, well only a week to go till Nottingham guys. I"m sure other teams will prattle on about insignificant tourneys they"ve won and carry on like it"s an oscar acceptance speech but as for us we are going to have a little dignity, oh wait. Haha. Hi everybody, just to keep You posted. I regretfully report that Dylan Herbert is unable to play in this Years Championship due to unforeseen circumstances. He is sorry for the short notice, and like the rest of us very sorry indeed to be missing out on playing.

Dylan"s replacement comes in the form of, "David Rudling-Smith". Yes that"s right Wales has a Father and Son partnership.
We welcome David and his obvious talent to the Wales squad. He is thrilled to be playing for Wales. We are all sorry for Dylan, and yet because of this, what a wonderful chance of a lifetime for the pair to play in the same team.

We thank Dylan for his effort and performances for Wales, and sincerely wish him the best for the future. He really is a star.

Cheers

Paul Mac
Title: Father and Son for Team Wales
Post by: Cyntaf on August 21, 2011, 17:36:51 PM
Team Wales are to have a bit of a family affair next week at Dusk til Dawn.

Father (Rudders) will be partnering David(Young Rudders) in team Wales along with Dan Owston and myself.

What a wonderful opportunity, for the pair to represent their country in the same team. :)

Unfortunately, this is at the cost of Dylan Herbert"s position on the team. Dylan is unable to attend, due to unforseen circumstances. He, along with the rest of us(David included) are so gutted for him to miss out on playing at these Championships. :(

I personally would like to thank Dylan on behalf of Team Wales and all our fellow supporters for his efforts and results whilst playing for Wales. We wish you all the very best for the future, You are a real superstar.

Cheers Paul Mac :)

Hi everyone, really sorry for the delay from DTD until now.

Anyway, what another fabulous event for Wales. :)  Last Year was some year for the Welsh, and to follow up this event with another outstanding display of poker was well beyond my expectations. Team Wales were fabulous and I state here and now, that I thank them individually and collectively as, "A Team" I am so proud of Rudders, Dan and David. They all really showed the true spirit of Wales. We truly missed Dylan, but would like to thank him for all his support. Cheers Bud! :)

Thank You to everybody who supported Team Wales, I really have been humbled by some of the messages that I have received.......including from my fellow team mates. :) :) :)

It"s great to bring the silverware home and hopefully entertain along the way...on the forum or live at the event.

Big cheer for Henry Griffiths on taking Silver in the Omaha event, a cracking follow up to the Hi-Lo event in Cardiff earlier in the season. :)

Warren Jones continued, going deep in the Heads up once again.

Then some Donkey from Rhyl won a Gold in the Horse event. ::)

I apologise if I have missed anyone who also went deep in any of the events. I was quite busy and can only go off the stats at the finish. If You, or you know of any other Welsh triumphs please post.

DTD, as usual made for a terrific venue. Tighty Des the sadly departed Leigh and Ian, served us another terrific festival of organised poker. There was a lot less vigorous intervention by the door staff this year ;) The bar staff in particular were real good fun. I found the dealers to be excellent again this Year. All of the players and team members played with an outstanding attitude, which made for another great week in poker.

Hope to see you all soon, and once again as," Apat World Amateur Team Champions"

Cymru Am Byth.

Cheers Paul Mac
