APAT WCOAP World Amateur Team Championship 2011
The format of the Team event is:
Day One
2:30pm 3 x 8 handed, 4 x 7 handed NLHE STT (1st=7pts, 2nd=6pts........7th=1pt, 8th=0pts) 5:30pm 3 x 8 handed, 4 x 7 handed PLO STT (1st=7pts, 2nd=6pts........7th=1pt, 8th=0pts) 9:00pm 39 x HU Matches - 6 per team (1st=4pts, 2nd=0pts)
Total points allocated for Day 1 = 548 Maximum Team points for Day 1 = 80
Total points allocated for Day 2 = 547 Maximum Team points for Day 1 = 126
Notes
Due to the 13 teams, we will be running a number of 7 handed STT"s. Points for those tables will be exactly the same as the 8 handed ones, without an 8th place getting 0pts.
The MTT will only alllocate points to the top 26 finishers (50% of the field). We will run hand for hand at 27 (3 tables of 9 players)
All Captains should check in at the APAT Admin desk on the lower tier of the card-room floor on arrival for payment of entry fees and for seat draws.

Right then, COMPETITION TIME
13 Countries, and 3 of them will medal.
All you have to do is pick one of the countries that will medal, and as a tiebreaker, also pick the player that you think will score the most points overall (Player doesn"t have to be from the same country you select to medal).
APAT Merchandise to the winner (If more than one person selects the same tiebreaker player, we"ll do a draw for the winner)
Entries must be posted up by 2pm on Thursday 25th August.
As an example (But clearly never gonna happen)
England to medal, John Murray to score most points. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Too funny ;D

So, welcome to DTD
5 days of Poker lie ahead of us with the 2011 renewal of APAT's World Championship of Amateur Poker
Today, the Team Event Day One and the Seven Card Stud
My job for five days will be to stand watch over Chipaccrual, make sure his spreadsheets are in order and not full of mistakes as normal. I have spotted several already
The most obvious of these was that he had Stuart "Fatcatstu" noted down as a member of Team England for the next two days. A schoolboy mistake.
Play begins at 2.30pm, with players arriving from 1pm.
My own guess?
Northern Ireland. James Eccles.

Poland make their one allowed tactical substitution today, Marcin Rejmak for Michel Pemploniak
Others have the same option, though its unlikely Canada, with a captain who has imbibed most of the DTD bar today, will have the clarity of thought to follow suit

Just spoken to Michal and the substitution was at his request. He"s never played Omaha in his life and decided to quite whilst he was ahead when they got four handed.
Great tactics.

Hats off for a great win ... I think the structure is spot on, albeit the points scoring weighting could be altered to make the event even more exciting at the death.
If the MTT points values were halved then if people finished in the same positions then the top five would have been as follows:
Wales 80 pts France 78 pts Portugal 77.5 pts Scotland 80.5 pts Rep or Ireland 79.5 pts
I don"t make this point to indicate Scotland should be placed higher, more that there would have been 5 teams in play for all the medals at the death.
As things ran last night, Wales would been favourite going into the last two tables but they would have more had to play for the win than to stay alive. They had the stacks to do this, which were built up in the main by attacking play and I would always want to reward that.
In my first table - David Rudling-Smith took the lead and made the running and no surprise to see him return to my table later on with a stack.
He and Dan Owston then bullied the table with their stacks until about 12 players out when it became optimal to sit and wait and scoop the title.
As before we all knew the structure going into the event so good MTT play would always be well rewarded.
Maybe the other teams should have kicked back stronger whilst the stacks were being built?
Great work - hopefully back next year to do battle.
L

Hi everyone, really sorry for the delay from DTD until now.
Anyway, what another fabulous event for Wales. Smiley Last Year was some year for the Welsh, and to follow up this event with another outstanding display of poker was well beyond my expectations. Team Wales were fabulous and I state here and now, that I thank them individually and collectively as, "A Team" I am so proud of Rudders, Dan and David. They all really showed the true spirit of Wales. We truly missed Dylan, but would like to thank him for all his support. Cheers Bud! Smiley
Thank You to everybody who supported Team Wales, I really have been humbled by some of the messages that I have received.......including from my fellow team mates. Smiley Smiley Smiley
It"s great to bring the silverware home and hopefully entertain along the way...on the forum or live at the event.
DTD, as usual made for a terrific venue. Tighty Des the sadly departed Leigh and Ian, served us another terrific festival of organised poker. There was a lot less vigorous intervention by the door staff this year Wink The bar staff in particular were real good fun. I found the dealers to be excellent again this Year. All of the players and team members played with an outstanding attitude, which made for another great week in poker.
Hope to see you all soon, and once again as," Apat World Amateur Team Champions"
