Sounds like it"s gonna be mega!!
Scheduled to open soon with a dedicated 150 seat poker room.
Finally a venue for those in the South East
Please don"t forget it when scheduling for next year. Although perhaps when the Olympics are on wouldn"t be the best plan!!
Happy days!

Info link please?

Once the games are over perhaps Seb Coe and Boris would let all the APATers stay in the olympic village - obviously they would have to build a bar first or we wouldn"t even consider it - we could have an opening ceremony and a few drinks...compos and a few drinks.....medal ceremonies and a few drinks....closing cermony and a few drinks....the village could have loads of side games going on - gets my vote.

Good stuff I might pop there during the week, I never like to play the Fox £50 during the week.

Thought you lived Nottingham now..!!

I will be there on 16th, no pokerz, just socialising with some others. This is on my doorstep so made up totally about this (not sure if it"s a good or bad thing though).
-
I was looking forward to popping up to visit this some time
But looking at the feedback it"s been getting I don"t think I"ll be rushing
No sign up needed + no dress code + deprived area of London = full of losers and pickpockets making it look like a dump
Massively overpriced drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) - £1.80 for a cup of tea for example
But most importantly, completely contradicting their advertising, poker is primarily self dealt.
And from what people have said it"s not much better when they do have dealers because none of the staff have been adequately trained on any of the games.

Ok, guess this place wont last long then, with there massively overpriced drinks in such a deprived area full of losers. Oh well at least it will be less for the pickpockets to steal once you have been fleeced at the bar. Guess I will have to go to Southend now for a game, oh Bo*****s that place will be full of people from Essex. Oh well always Brighton I guess, at least I may enjoy having my pocket felt there.
-
lol that was a basic summary of the feedback I"d read.
Obviously some people have their own prejudices they"re bringing to it - but it wasn"t like 1 or 2 people, it was more like 1 good comment to very 19 or 20 bad ones.
The particularly relevant one"s imo are that the staff aren"t trained properly and the poker is self deal.
And the staff not being trained comments weren"t general tilty jabs from people who"d lost money - they gave specific examples about the staff not knowing the rules of the house games they were dealing plus things like dealers not knowing how to use the auto shufflers.
-
Where did you see these comments Jon?
Gatso was there there on Saturday and he said the game had only 5 dealers, the rest of the tables were self dealt (this was for a £5 RB afternoon tourny), game started late, and at one stage they tried to squeeze 11 runners onto a table until it was pointed out they should be opening another table. There were approx 80ish runners ... still not bad for a first Saturday tourny really ...
It is only the first week though, bound to be teething problems with staff etc. They may not have anticipated the amount of runners for that particular tourny. Cannot comment on pit games as not been there yet.
Time will tell as with anything, hopefully things will settle down and we have a good casino in the South East which we have been crying out for for ages.
Failing that, there"s always pick-pocketing to fall back on ;)

...
Initially their facebook page, I did some googling and it was similar in other places as well like peoples blogs.
Not having enough dealers could definitely be a sign that they just underestimated the demand - but that doesn"t explain why the staff were under trained.
Something that did come up was that lots of people said that the staff attitude was good (apart from security, so they"re best avoided). This makes me wonder whether a lot of the staff training there has been focussed on customer service rather than the technical aspects of their jobs.
If that"s the case then they"ll learn the job as they do it and it"ll stop being a problem (as long as they don"t have a staff turnover problem). I"m going to give it a few months, whereas my initial plan was to visit before Christmas.

(apart from security, so they"re best avoided).
Oops
-
This happens so often when a new place opens - they launch with a massive fanfare and a huge splash of publicity, but are actually at their least able to deal with the influx of people (new staff, untested systems) which hurts them as they get a load of people who think "this place is rubbish" and don"t come back.
One guy posted a review on 2+2 and said that their registration was so poor and took such a long time that he never even managed to play in the tournament he went down for, opting to leave instead of standing in a queue all day.

i will be giving this place a miss then!!

You sure Stu? They have Pai Gow poker*
* this may or may not be true

if not it should be closed down forthwith

From my experience, apart from Newcastle, Asper"s are pretty poor. I can believe what Jon says (unless of course somebody actually goes there and finds it"s really nice which is not impossible).
Their casino in Swansea (10 minutes from my house annoyingly) is poor at best though, not just poker the whole lot. They seem more concerned with getting people in there to buy drink"s (it might as well be a night club sometimes). Their poker tournaments are not that well run and they have been known to run out of chips and I have heard of (not seen I should add) some questionable rulings.

There is no Pai Gow either so I guess Stu does not have to pay a visit :-)

One of the facebook comments was indeed somebody saying that it seemed like Aspers weren"t sure what they really wanted - a casino, a pub or a nightclub.
-
I understood from an article on 5live the other day that Aspers saw this place as somewhere people will pop in and spend 20 quid while doing some shopping.
