So Cork
Cork lies on the River Lee and the river splits in two with two channels as it passes through the city centre
The Macau lies on the banks of the North Channel.
A very pleasant scene it made too as the heavy morning fog lifted and the sun broke through to reveal a day of Indian Summer potential
I awoke this morning to a 3.30am alarm call. Ouch. An hour to Stansted and a 6am flight. I have never in my life seen an aiport busier, let alone at 4.45am when I arrived
I handled the queues and delays with my customary patience and sang froid. Indeed I was delighted to be sat next to a young Mum and a three month old on the plane
I knew I had 3 or 4 hours to kill before the Macau opened and, the airport at Cork yet to wake when I arrived, headed to town to try to watch the Rugby World Cup
Fortunately the pub below my hotel had it on, I ordered an Irish Breakfast, just the one, and settled down
I was soon joined by a man of red face, grey hair longer than it should be and woolly jumper.
Bearing in mind it was 9am I was convinced he was drunk. Notwithstanding his state of inebriation I could not understand a word he said. Its a problem I"ve had before in South West Ireland
Still, I probably had it light. My colleague Mr Duffy alighted on a cafe for breakfast mid-saunter from hotel to Macau this morning and ordered a bacon sandwich, no butter, no sauce. Plain and simple
About ten minutes later the sandwich arrived. No butter, no sauce, but sadly no bacon either. Just two slabs of bread presented to him on a plate
Now I have an excuse, I am an Englishman in bandit country. Duffy, on the other hand, is born and raised this side of the Irish Channel and he seemingly struggles to get his point across

-
Smallest apat ever by a distance? Could u finish it tonight?
No we"d play the final tomorrow, even if we reach 9 tonight
We had 80 in Dublin last year (moved away from the Fitz as they supported it a lot less last year) and this year a combination of things (Mainly a clash after we"d booked this date with 2 big Dublin events today, taking 40-50 Cork regs to Dublin) have taken us to 60
There was also a perception that Cork was tricky to get to from the UK, not strictly true from many areas but there a are a lot of competing events on and budgets are tight these days
We"re likely to move Ireland away from its usual September date next year to get both travelling numbers and Irish players back to our Irish event

61?
Who tipped Murray off?
smart man, he didn"t need tipping off he saw a good chance at ranking points, a final and a medal if it ran well for him
-
What is the prize for winning the rankings this year?
-
As for the Macau itself, really good facilities, good dealers, nice location only 10 minutes from the airport
It ticks the boxes, if people would accept they can get to it affordably.
-
Paul Davis out
J-10 on a Jack high all club board, his opponent had 6c9c in the blinds
-
What is the prize for winning the rankings this year?
A UKIPT Seat.

Hello and welcome back to Cork where it is wet. Very wet
This is not a surprise, as the only thing that seperates this City from the vast expanse of Atlantic Ocean is a peninsula the other side of Kerry
I once spent a week near here, and it rained every day. I showed a photo of the sun to a local and asked him what it was. He was clueless, but only tried to give me an answer after ordering his pint of Guinness
Anyway, in honour of nature"s phenomena lost to the West of Ireland I give you

Local player and current chipleader Keith Luxford.
Erratic at times; when throwing chips into the middle or misreading his hands, Luxford hasn"t done too much wrong so far today and he has the momentum of getting good cards at the right time also.
The Corkman looks a little like Wayne Rooney and I wouldn"t bet against him hitting the net before the day is out.

In the run up to the Scottish Championship, the moderator posted the following;
"Feel free to spread to word, we are slightly baffled as to where all the Scottish APATers are hiding at the moment.
If the demand is not there, it makes it tough to justify heading to Scotland next season."
I dont want pee on the campfire, but, what is the view with regards Cork and the number of runners ?
-
this was addressed earlier in this thread
In summary
- Its the second year in a row Irish numbers have been light
- In part the local venues need to promote more. The Macau acknowledged this.
- This year we were unlucky in that a 700 runner Dublin event was scheduled after ours and took a lot of people away this weekend
- UK APAT travellers seemed to have the view that Cork was a non-option. This was incorrect, but the perception never changed. You could have done Cork for 2 nights for around £200 all in from most UK destinations. One player, an APAT regular, did the weekend (after buy in) on less than £100 on a tight budget
Next year we intend to change the date of the Irish event (before summer holidays, before WCOAP) and without any clashes we"ll aim to get 120+ again
For Scotland, I think I have solved the venue problem. (either unsuitable venues or lack of support from card-rooms have been a problem for over 2 years )
For season 6 overall, where planning is in progress, season 5 has taught me much about scheduling and what suits people best
-
Thanks, for a well explained reply.

This is far to informative. Please try and keep us in the dark for as long as possible. It also negates the need for a sooooooooooooooooooooon when too much info is given ;)

For season 6 overall, where planning is in progress, season 5 has taught me much about scheduling and what suits people best
When do we start the Season 6 discussion thread where everyone says "don"t play on Tuesdays because I work that day" or "can we play more Omaha because I"m cr@p at Hold "em"
It"s the highlight of the forum year!
