The Showing of Hands

Right, a little bug bear of mine that I would like some clarification to.


At the end of a hand lets say after the river there are 3 people left in the hand, they are the SB, BB and Button (just to make visualisation easier), the SB bets and the BB and button call the bet.

The question - Who is meant to show their cards first.

This bugs me, because sometimes when you are in a hand and at the end of it someone turns their cards and has the nuts, but the person has showed their cards out of turn, and the person who should of showed first then refuses to show and mucks. My problem is that you have been in the hand and you have payed for information that you are not going to get.

So what is the official ruling,if their is one? Also, what do Tight and Des think should be the case in the APAT games, is it left up to the casino"s house rules.

"If everyone checks or is all in on the final betting round, the player who acted first is the first to show the hand. If there is betting on the final round the last player to take aggressive action by a bet or raise is the first to show the hand. If there is a side pot, players involved in the side pot should show their hands before anyone who is all in for the main pot."

In this case the SB was the last player to take aggressive action and should show first. If the button shows the nuts first out of turn the BB can request to the dealer to see the SB"s cards if he attempts to muck them and of course show his own cards as well. More often than not if a player shows the nuts out of turn then everyone usually mucks with a grimace, muffling ...nh!?

That is what I thought,although I wasnt sure if it would be the person in the earliest seat to the dealer who was first to show, regardless of action.

But I really do hate it, when in that instance you are the BB, and say the button has showed out of turn, and you really want to see what the SB had, because you want to see what he calling with to find out a bit about his range, and the SB says " he had me beat" and mucks..... Grrrr......

The APAT rules used to say that all players must show at the end of the final betting round, regardless of who shows first.

This rule disappeared for some reason prior to the Dublin event, but Des confirmed in Dublin that the rule should still be enforced.
