how did i play this?
« on: February 14, 2010, 21:58:00 PM »
Wonder how I played this? Thought I played it quite well, but as usual, would be useful getting other more experienced views. The other guy, I have no real read on. He"s folded to several raises from me in late position. I also 3 bet him on a dry flop afew hands earlier and he folded.

Re raise to 8-9k pre

As played I"d bet on the flop for info. Maybe 4k if I"m flat called or re raised then I"m worried. I certainly woulnt jam it all on the turn.

Pre I dnt hate, I mix it between 4-bet and call.  If we 4-bet, we r obv 4-bet/getting it in.

Think its pretty spewy and ur hand is sumwat face-up.  Considering we have no reads, a lot of ppl check back Ax on this flop.  Also, with ur line, Im not sure u fold out ne better hands than ur own.

I prob make a small probing bet of ~2875 as I am prob dng this with my entire range on the turn.

I was pretty confident he didn"t have an ace based on a timing tell I"d picked up afew hands earlier. He"d tank checked on an ace high flop afew hands earlier (against another player) and was afraid to cbet (obv cos he didnt have the ace).

Despite this I felt I was likely trailing to a bigger pair JJ-KK. Hence my line of thinking was trying to get a player who"d shown some weak play in a prev hand and this one to fold a better hand.

In fact he tanked on the turn for nearly all of his 120 sec timebank and called - flipped KK. I think if I"d been luckier and he"d had JJ or QQ he may have found a fold.

I think the other factor in making this move was my shrinking stack, but a stack equal to his so forcing him to call for his life.

Do u think betting 18k on the turn looks stronger than betting 3k?

Dont see need to get it in preflop, you are usually way behind or slightly in front, and with blinds fairly small compared to stack this is fine.

cant belive he tanked KKs on this flop. Wit 2 Aces there, it is more unlikely you have it. A board of A44 for example is much more scary for kk from his point of view. if you belive he had a over pair to your hand, then shoving is actually bad for the reason above. He is never folding kk on this board. you could of taken a stab to see if you can get a cheap river, and with his tank , i think you would of been able to.

I think a small turn bet he is never folding to. The all in was purely to try and illicit a fold in this particular opponent

But my point is, ur a/i bet looks pretty weak and defensive and I highly doubt u r ever folding a better hand than urs.  If he calls w/ kk, then Id say he is almost def calling with QQ/JJ as for the most part wen u flat pre kk=qq in his spot.

I think if you are gng to turn ur hand into a bluff (which I also dnt agree with as ur hand still has show-down value against some of his range), then I far prefer barrelling him than just open-shoving the turn, esp wen he does still have Ax hands in his range some of the time.

Just re-looked through this hand, really cant see the benefit of shoving turn, in the unlikely event of you having Ax, then you wouldnt over bet shove would you?

LOL, cant belive he slow rolled you with KK, maybe he was out of the room or somthing. Sorry but just so funny that he tanked.

Some presumptions..
From your description of villain, he"s weak passive and you have been somewhat pushing him around. Your image is most likely towards laggy and he"s had enough.

Even so, his 3 bet range is still strong, mostly the first adjustment these guys make is to call lighter. You are oop with TT and imo crushed by his 3 bet range nevermind his 4/5 bet range, against QQ+,AKs,AKo, your equity is 36% and, he gets to act last.

Your getting a little over 8/1 implied odds, basically to hit a set or fold, or get jiggy and level yourself. You need at least 10/1 to make the call correct on that basis.

Imho, fold pf> call>>> 4bet. I fold pf and prefer to continue to exploit his weaknesses over leveling myself in an uncertain adjusting range scenario. In position I think calling can be marginally profitable.

Now flame the nit  :P

ok thanks for the advice. I think in hindsight I could/should have got to showdown cheaply given his weakness and hoped my 10s were good. I"d atleast then still been alive.

Hey shozboy. maybe next time it would be best if you dont reveal the opponents hand or the outcome untill you have a few replies. I know my reply in this would not be influenced by the final result, but it makes it more fun this way.
Untill then keep on grinding away.

shoz :) take on board the comments about turning your hand into a bluff...
Your stack size is fine

36bb pre is fine try to be more patient...
From what u describe of villain then he sounds fairly solid to me, so when he 3bets so small that screams big hand so fold would be my advice [ure oop and dont have good implied odds to set mine, i tend to look for 15/1]
So fold or 4bet and with how i read your description of him then i"d favour fold..As played when calling a 3bet oop then hardly ever check, cbet 1/2 to 2/3 pot and take a shot at the flop , if he just calls then shut down but this may buy a river card and a showdown and if ure lucky a ten met appear [then look to get value]...

If u had better reads then donk betting flop and turn is an option but u have to have very good reads to pull summit as spew invoking as this ;D
