Vegas 2013 - I'm going, help please.
« on: April 20, 2013, 23:09:00 PM »
Okay - Celebrating my 40th Birthday with a trip to Vegas.

Week 1 @ venetian - Tourist (pretty much covered)
Week 2 Palms for weekend and Harrahs for remainder (30th May 7th June) - Poker time.

Have been twice before (not in the summer) so generally familiar with area

So here I'm after the following from you lovely forum members:

1. Who's going (especially during this period)
2. Anyone want to meet up for a few beers
3. Suggestions on things to do (entertainment), bars, clubs, eating, etc.
4. Suggestions on poker schedule, what I should play: Assume $3K bankroll, will look to play cash + tournies.
a. I'm thinking somewhere in the 200-300$ tournies, venetian ds, caesars, rio ds and GN.
b. Which ones offer the better value both in field ability, structure, prizepool and rake/dealers held & entry fee/prizepool.
c. Cash wise where will I get the best 1/2 1/3 games during this period5. I'm not really considering any of the WSOP events, there are 5 events I could look at:
a. Do these all have daily satellites and if so:
i. What's the standard? Do they usually run to multiple seats?
b. Anyone interested in taking a share / Staking? (I might think about an event or two if I can sell about 50%)
c. How do these compare to the Venetian/Caersars/Rio ds mentioned above.6. Anything you can think of.

Cheers

Jason

Not been for couple years but heres my help fwiw!!

1. Who's going (especially during this period)

Not unless I win a package somehow!!

2. Anyone want to meet up for a few beers

See above but defo if manage to get there!!

3. Suggestions on things to do (entertainment), bars, clubs, eating, etc.

Any Cirque du Soleil shows an absolute must....."O" is the best imo and I see it every time Im there!!.....havent seen Beatles or Jackson one yet but sure they pretty amazing too!!

Grand Canyon helicopter tour pretty amazing.

Shooting gun at a range was pretty cool too....cant remember name of where it at!!

So many restaurants/bars/clubs your spoilt for choice depending on what you like....Tao at Venetian nice...amazing cheap steak dinner at El Cortez on Freemont St(absolute ****hole but your only there for the meal!!)....always loved Piano Bar at New York New York but bit of a hike

4. Suggestions on poker schedule, what I should play: Assume $3K bankroll, will look to play cash + tournies.
a. I'm thinking somewhere in the 200-300$ tournies, venetian ds, caesars, rio ds and GN.

For me Ive always loved the Venetian DS tournies....such value and some dreadful play so if u can get through the donks with a half decent stack youve got a great shot at a nice score.

Caesars daily $200 if I remember rightly pretty juicy too but theyve prob got a festival on at same time but not 100% on this.......if running Binions mini WSOP events also a nice option.

c. Cash wise where will I get the best 1/2 1/3 games during this period5.

Only really played cash at Venetian and bit at Flamingo.

I'm not really considering any of the WSOP events, there are 5 events I could look at:
a. Do these all have daily satellites and if so:
i. What's the standard? Do they usually run to multiple seats?

Dont think they have direct sattys into the daily events but you can always play a satty for the ME and use the chips to buy into whatever event you like or another option if they still run them are the SNG"s.....they start at like $100 with top 2 getting paid and you can work your way up the lvls or just stick at the $100"s and keep building up the roll.

b. Anyone interested in taking a share / Staking? (I might think about an event or two if I can sell about 50%)

Might do depending on proposal, past results etc etc....u can only try and see what response u get!!

c. How do these compare to the Venetian/Caersars/Rio ds mentioned above.6. Anything you can think of.

Structure nowhere near as good imo.......I would much rather play early on at Venetian and if get a nice score your set up to play some of the WSOP events and hopefully built enough of roll to get into ME if that is your plan.

Have a good trip Jason.

Regrding sats for wsop events, the rio run loads of single table sats with the lowest buy in being around $135. well worth trying a couple of these to get into a $1k event. If you"re there for the wsop why not give it a go. the standard of the low buy in sats is very poor and you"ll have an above average chance of cashing. They pay out the winners (normally 2 per table I think) in tournament chips that you can use to buy directly into a wsop event.

I know a lot of people knock the wsop events for the low starting stack, but blinds start at 25/25 and run for an hour if  you play a $1k you start with 3,000 chips which gives you plenty of play.

Also I think the first $1,000 is guaranteeing a million bucks to the winner. Someones gotta win it  ;D

a. I'm thinking somewhere in the 200-300$ tournies, venetian ds, caesars, rio ds and GN.I can recommend The Wynn"s $200 comp and Caesars simply as a great venue - also the ALL VEGAS POKER APP for your phone - it"s got every comp at every location[/color]
b. Which ones offer the better value both in field ability, structure, prizepool and rake/dealers held & entry fee/prizepool. Player ability is surprisingly poor everywhere; check AVP for all structure & fee details; prizepool is trickier to assess without knowing the Guarantees

Firstly, thanks for your responses and good luck with the ISPT events if your entering, (another APAT event I"m missing due to holidays/other plans).

"WSOP Deep Stack No-Limit Hold'em Tournaments Every Day May 29 - July 14:at the Rio" - probably end up playing at least one of these.

"The Aria has always had really juicy 1/3 whenever I"ve been there." Haven"t been in/played there so probably give it a spin. Any particular time good?

"Any Cirque du Soleil shows an absolute must....."O" is the best imo and I see it every time Im there!!.....havent seen Beatles or Jackson one yet but sure they pretty amazing too!!" Love Booked

"Grand Canyon helicopter tour pretty amazing." Did this last time, gonna pass this time unless I hit a big score within 2 weeks (not likely as not expecting to play between now and the trip).

Shooting gun at a range was pretty cool too....cant remember name of where it at!!" This is on the to-do list  :)

Glenn - Thanks for the links: had all these on my research list. Greats minds eh?? And good luck while you are there.

I have selected a range from Venetion DS, Rio DS, and CP. Will also look at the sats for WSOP when I get to the Rio. Looking pretty booked out and wishing I had another 2 weeks on the booking. Oh well always 2015...

Gonna see if I can book 50% of action for the 1500$ Millionaire Maker.

Finally anyone there at the same time drop me a line and i"ll buy you a beer...

Cheers

Jason

Like most of Vegas, the standard is soft whenever. However I"d say grab a seat around the end of the Cirque showings. It seems to attract a few dealers from other cardrooms (and they"re often pretty gambley the ones I"ve come across).
