Hi all - Vaino"s family have asked me to pass on details for his memorial to be held on Friday 24th January. He was much loved by the APAT community and a kinder, more selfless man you would struggle to find. I"d like to encourage anyone from APAT to attend to pay our respects, although it"s unlikely I"ll be able to make it due to work commitments. I"d also like to propose that as a group, we make a donation to Cancer Research in his honour and in line with his family"s wish.
Memorial Details:
I am now able to give more information which I hope will comfort Vaino's many friends. As many of you are aware Vaino was living with pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver. He managed the cancer extremely well. Unfortunately he did get weaker, but he still managed to do what he enjoyed and continued to play pool and poker. He was receiving daily injections to treat his blood clots on his lung. Unfortunately he was regularly breathless due these, and it appears that it was blood clot, that lead to his death.
His memorial will commence on Friday 24th January at 3pm. All his friends are more than welcome. This is taking place at a local pub to where he lived; he was also a member of the pool team there. Full details are: Soldiers & Sailors, Tamworth Road, Long Eaton, Nottingham, NG10 3JS. This is opposite Long Eaton train station and it also has a large free car park. This is a wake which will focus on celebrating the life Vaino had, which was very colourful and not focus on mourning his loss! Please come dressed as you wish. Photos will be on a projector screen, and there will be the opportunity for people to speak about experiences/memories you have of him, if you so wish. A basic spread of food will also be provided.
May I please request that you do not bring flowers. Flowers have a short life, and although I like them they would have not have any real significance to Vaino. There will be a collection for cancer research at the wake which would be far more practical.
As Vaino was a practical man he wished to donate his body to medical science. Unfortunately this has not happened, as his cancer was too aggressive and in his abdomen which meant they could not accept his body. In attempt at keeping as close to his wishes as we can, I ask that you respect and understand that the cremation will be only family and close friends. We hope to see you afterwards in the Soldiers and Sailors.
