Coming in at #7 on our World Championship of Amateur Poker countdown is Anthony Gale.



The Welshman has earned 33 ranking points through 3 large field cashes to make his way into our top 10 ranked players of all time.

Gale first scored big in the 2014 Main Event, winning the Bronze medal in a field of 332 runners, behind winner Tristan Chaplin and Levente Varga.

The Llantrisant player returned the following year to score another two cashes in large field events.

Firstly, he finished 11th of 158 runners in the No Limit Hold'em Championship. He then went on to repeat his Main Event finish of the previous year, with another Bronze medal win - this time finishing behind winner Daniel Lewis and Paul Fisher, in a field of 397 runners.

Anthony might not have the most cashes of top ten players, but he is far and away the most proficient finisher in big field events.

Can he make it a hat-trick of deep runs in the Main Event in Manchester? Despite the odds, we're not betting against it!

Coming in at #6 in our countdown of the highest ranked players in World Championship of Amateur Poker history is Steve Roderick.



Steve is currently APAT's #2 ranked player of all-time, so it comes as no surprise that he's also enjoyed success at our most premium series.

The Welshman kicked off his WCOAP career with the first of four cashes in 2010. It was a very impressive start too, yielding a Silver medal and £6,500 from the 425 player WCOAP Main Event, behind Ben Young.

While Steve was having plenty of success on the APAT tour generally, it was to be 2015 before he cashed a WCOAP event again.

This time it was the Omaha Dealers Choice Championship, where Steve would once again take a Silver medal.

Roderick wouldn't be the bridesmaid for much longer however and he returned in 2016 to scoop his first WCOAP Bracelet in the PLO Hi-Lo Championship.

Steve went on to finish 11th in the 144 runner Six Max Championship to cap a successful 2016 series.

We're confident the former Welsh team captain will return stronger than ever in 2017 and be among the strong favourites to land the player of the series title.

We've reached the last 5 in our countdown of the top 20 ranked players in World Championship of Amateur Poker history and coming in at #5 is popular Londoner, Matt Carter.



Carter, who will captain the England team at this year's World Amateur Team Championship, has cashed six times at APAT's headline series over the years.

His adventure started way back at the first WCOAP in 2008, where he fell just short of the Main Event final table, finishing 12th of 206 players.

It would be five years before Carter would cash again, finishing 5th at the 2013 Stud Championship.

He would win his first WCOAP medal in 2015, with a third place finish, again in the Stud discipline.

Carter produced his most outstanding WCOAP performance last season.

Firstly, as a member of the England team who took the Silver medals in the World Amateur Team Championship, behind a rampant Scottish quartet.

He final tabled the PLO Championship, finishing 9th.

A couple of days later Matt enjoyed a second deep run at the Main Event, this time finishing a highly credible 5th of 393 players.

While Matt Carter's focus is likely to be firmly on the Team Championship in Manchester, there's no doubt he has the steely mentality to grind out a couple of individual results either side. In fact, we're pretty sure if you offered him a guaranteed Bracelet today, he'd choose Team glory over Main Event Gold.
