Season 4 League 1 Round 1 report
« on: March 08, 2010, 22:48:53 PM »
Nottingham stormed to victory in the season 4 division 3 opening round. Led by a hyper-aggressive Rupinder George Chuckles george2loose Bedi and Baljinder Powar, we amassed 16 match points to pip Kent (13 points) and Sunderland (10 points) to the win.

Eight Nottingham players graced the starting line-up of 51, not a bad tally for the season opener. Hopefully we can see a steady increase in numbers as we progress and build a bit of momentum.

Our brave battlers were Kevin Shutt, Andy Ciesielski, Christian Briggs, Steve Marskell, Peter Collins, Jack Prime, Baljinder Powar and Rupinder Bedi.

Peter (Jumpa) was our first man to bite the felt in 47th place when his Jacks were beaten by his opponent"s AKs. Unfortunately the J that gave him a set also made the opponent"s flush.

Steve (Fonzie14111) was next to fall in 42nd, a victim of the new captain"s world-renowned bokking skills (oops!)

It was great to see Season 1 Rankings Winner, Kevin (2sublime) at the table again. However he never really got going and was out in 28th spot.

Andy"s (andypolack) demise in 26th came as a surprise as he"s been showing his first table a clean pair of heals and playing really well.

Christian (Bainn) was unlucky to fall just short of a point-scoring final table finish when he eventually succumbed in 14th after being card dead.

When the final table formed, Notts still had three players in the running, Jack (sambarnbrac), Baljinder (shozboy) and Rupinder (sTRINGBET) who was a big chip leader. The other 6 final tablers were, in equal proportions from Kent, Luton and Sunderland.

After two quickish exits, Jack was next to depart when his ill-timed shove with A8 was called by a non-soft-playing Rupinder (quite right too!) with AQ. No help but 3 match points were his reward for 7th place.

By the time the 5th placed finisher was decided, Nottingham were already assured of sufficient points to put them in an unassailable position. sTRINGBET and shozboy were the next two exits in 4th & 3rd and picking up 6 & 7 points respectively for a final club tally of 16 points.

John Ripley (Grim Ripper) of Kent went on to take the win from Kathryn Johnson (katos1) of Sunderland. Well done to both of them.

So Nottingham"s 16 points were enough to secure the 3 league points. With Kent taking the 2 on offer for their 13 point total and Sunderland were rewarded with a solitary point for their 10 point haul.

As always great fun, played in a great spirit.

Join us on Sunday 14th March at 8pm on Betfair for round 2.
