National League Week 10
« on: July 03, 2010, 09:17:32 AM »
It"s the big one, guys. We need as many players as possible to give us our best chance of winning the league. We are already promoted but we want to go up in style. With three teams fighting for the final promotion spot there could be a decent turnout, so we need some volume.

Started the day in London, spent most of it in Bournemouth, left there at 6.30 for a 40 min journey home and got stuck in a nasty traffic-jam. At least I wasn"t heading up the M3 towards London - that looked horrible. Got home 7.50, insufficient credit, tried to deposit and feckin betfair account website kept collapsing.

So, I have plenty of time to follow tonight"s match. We have 5 in - eachit, SpannerHands, TPTKMav, RaggyMaggie & skippy just. Maggie was out early but I didn"t see it. Looked bad with Hallstar down to just over 400 & SpannaHands just over 1100 but they have both zoomed right back up to 2200 & 2700. each it is on 3400, skippy just on 2400 & TPTKMav on 2200, so it"s looking okay again.

1st break, and we"re still going well. skippy just 3487, TPTKMav 3365, each it 2973, SpannaHands 1897, Hallstar 1848.

Stockton have 3 still in - gomarrrahh 6333, gpj100 2852, coull50 1970.

In the race for the 3rd promotion spot, Dublin look odds-on with 6 still in. Birmingham brought back several of their heavyweights for tonight"s game but ring-rustiness found them out and they all crashed out early - 3 players left. Sheffield seem to have given up with just 2 players remaining. Dublin keep taking each other on and then arguing about it though, so maybe there is hope for the others.

16 left - 3 of ours, 3 of theirs and 10 of the others. At least we haven"t gone to war with each other - Sheffield & Dundee have managed to knock out their own players and Dublin have come close. I think Plymouth and/or Newcastle (both on 3 points) might regret their complacency in not showing up as all the teams on 2 points (North London, Brighton & Dundee) are making a strong effort tonight.

With some time on my hands, let me tell you about yesterday. I was dragged along to an open-air concert with a succession of acts, though we only watched two. First Missy Elliott - supposed to play half an hour, she arrived twenty minutes late, sang two and a half songs and then the organizers cut her music halfway through a song as her time was up, leaving her to walk off in a storm of boos.
Next was Snoop Dogg. What a character, he looks and acts like something out of a cartoon. A real old-fashioned rabble-rouser, playing Mr Cool or, as he would say, Mr Mutha****in Cool. At times it was like a children"s party - "now let"s hear all the sexy ladies", but he was actually very entertaining and played 45 minutes and performed loads of songs, including everyone"s favourite I Want To **** You. I probably wouldn"t go again, but I"m glad I saw it. He certainly saved the show from a lot of refund claims.

So we won the league. A very close result with two players from Solent & two from Stockton on the FT. Leigh Efford, Maggie Holt, Andy Hall & Andy Heath win the £250 seats, all of them having made multiple final tables. Congrats in particular to the Player of the Series, Leigh Efford, who reached 6 FTs and finished as the best player in Div 2 by a mile with 33 points, 9 ahead of the 2nd placed player. As he contributed most to us winning the league, never more so than tonight, it was fitting that he also won the final game of the league.

Thanks for the kind words.  Thought this season was a real head turner for me.  Great spirit in the league and always great support from the rail, which you don"t get very often playing online poker - nature of the beast.  Hope to catch up with some of you guys in person soon.

I really hope we get a good strong start to the next season and cement our position in Div 1.  Dave Singleton I imagine will be a regular after really enjoying his first outting and finishing a solid 10th.

All I need now is a few verses from Mr Dog Pound himself, which I"m sure Murray can provide after his recent outting, and I"m set....

Well done all, irked at missing the last two due to being in Vegas (sure I will get precisely zero, or maybe even negative sympathy), but best of luck with the £250 seats.

Next step is to win Div 1 with the GUKPT (that"s right isn"t it) seats on offer!
