Newbies to APAT

Hi all.

Me and my mate are students and we aint got much good to do with our lives/student loan, we started playing online poker a bit too much probably and would prefer to get involved with some live play, bigger buy ins but less donks and no getting pushed by the blinds after an hour to start playing with crap.
We would play 50/100 dollar buy-ins online but it just dont seem right to put that much money on an online game if ya get me, would much rather make a night of it.
So anyway getting to the point we came across this site noticed a couple of tournies mainly in Nottingham that we would be interested in playing and were wondering if anyone could register for these tournaments and how to do so?

May seem a stupid question but we weren"t sure if you had to be a paying member of APAT or if you had to have been involved for a certain amount of years.

Anyway the tournament we found that we liked was the World Amateur Poker Championship(main event) Notts 3 day tournie on the 27th August.
How can we register and when do we register?
Plus it is a 75 quid buy in ye?

I always thought you had to be some rich geezer from ipoker to get involved in real live events such as these, it would be sound if it only costs 75 quid, i would probably lose less doing a couple of these every month rather than my online play

You could invest your student loan in some books so you can learn things, thus solving both of your dilemmas.

Saving this, APAT does not require a registration fee or deep pockets.  You do however, have to have paid some tax in your life.

Other than this I ain"t got much good better advice than wot I just sed.

ok you both have student loans burning a hole in your pockets
losing over £150/month each with your online play at the moment
never played live b&m tourneys before
and would like to make a night of it while gaining experience

The answer is simple
Come and join my local casino game in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. In fact sod that ! if you live near Nottingham its only a couple of hours away for me, you name the local and I will join you   and I will buy you a pint for every two you buy for yourself**

On a serious note I was in the same situation as you and stumbled across the Apat site by accident while only playing online. In fact I only posted on here to help with directions/ cheap hotels etc to the next tournament which was in my home town. I was warmly welcomed and invited to join the tournament which I played in and thoroughly enjoyed.
It was the best thing I could have done.

Going back to your original questions, you are now an Apat member already free of charge. Registration for the tournaments usually are available about three weeks before (mods can give you details). Most buy-ins are £75 . The DTD World Tourney I believe is £100 but the kind sponsors 888Poker pay the registration fee.
They are great value tournaments with a cracking atmosphere.

The thing mentioned about proving that you have paid tax before - is there now way around that?
Obviously we"re students, we don"t pay tax, we have paid National Insurance before.

I"m guessing it"s to stop Pros taking part but if we had proof that were Students such as a tax exemption form or a student loan form would that be enough and when would we need to show it?

Nottingham is local to us sometimes mate but Lancaster any time but summer, couldn"t see many tournaments near Lancs, Cardiff could be a poss.

But your definitely right on burning a hole in our pockets with Ipoker.

That was a (poor) joke....it"s not an actual requirement BUT you WILL be required to prove you are over 18 in most casinos and over 21 in some others.

Worth checking before your go.

I assumed Tighty was referring to the normal APAT buy-in and not the WCOAP.

AFAIK those are as last year.
