chatting at the table during a hand

What is the rule on this?

Can a player who is at the table, but not involved in the hand, comment on such things as what cards people may or may not have while the hand is still being played out?

If not, what are the penalties if this does happen?

General chat fine Brian, but very bad etiquette to be in any way involved in the hand being played. Punishment? Not sure if it would be house rules or TD to sort out. I"d certainly be speaking up at the table if it happened in front of me. Annoys me that it seems to be more common online and not really anyway to stop it at the time. I"ve even witnessed people saying stuff like "complete bluff" and "call him" in chat boxes when they"ve had no part in the hand. Pretty shocking mate.

Generally, the rules relaxes and those left in the hand are allowed to discuss when the hand reaches headsup

In the hand is not a problem IMO....dont think that people not involved in the hand should make comments though..

i played in $110 tourney after being k/o of main event at caesars on sat  night, 3 of us left  i was massive chip leader & spanish guy wanted to chop  i refused to chop  but the problem came after i lost a large pot to him  as he had agreed to split with richard  baker who was smallest stack  pre that hand ,  blinds 6000/12000  on button i called with kj richard went to raise & spanish guy said be careful to him twice richard ignored him & raised 40000 he called  i folded  he had  qq i complained to dealer but got no satisfaction called for  the t/d whom i explained about the chop etc  he told me that saying  be careful twice to a player you have agreed to chop with as he about to raise was not wrong as hed did not say dont raise  it was ok and fair play to richard he told the t/d that spanish guy tried to influence him not to raise as there would be less to chop but t/d still ignored it and when i knocked chips  my over & told him to stick his tournament  where the sun dont shine he was quick enough to warn me that if i refused to play i would not even get 3rd place prize money $612  so much for fair play at caesars palace

I thought you couldn"t chop unless all parties agreed. 2 out of 3 agreeing a chop looks like collusion to me and is surely something Caesars wouldn"t sanction - or am I wrong?

Not sure about that - clearly a tournament cannot be ended with a chop unless all players agree..... but as for two players agreeing to chop their own prizes, I don"t think that"s an issue. Many a time I"ve gone for a night out to play a tournament with a mate, and we"ve agreed to take 50% of each other..... that"s just the same as the Spaniard and Richard agreeing a 50/50 split, although the timing is just a little different.

And if two players agree to a 50/50 chop of their profits before tourney starts?  Is that ok?  An if it is, they how is it different if they make that deal after the tourney starts?

(just playing devil"s advocate - I would hate it if two people made a deal three handed like this)

i did not have a problem  over them chopping  the problem i had was that because he only said  be careful twice to richard was not deemed as collusion by the t/d  but he was quick enough to warn me when i threw in my chips with disgust that if i walked away i would not get 3rd place prize money to my mind caesars condone cheating
