So...I"m still undecided about my last hotel for Paulie"s Las Vegas Adventure.

I have 3 nights booked at the Excal (where I have stayed before) for a lousy $50 night (roughly) but I"m not entirely happy with this.

Oh, sure it"s convenient for MGM, NYNY, Luxor & MB but, for some reason, I"m kind of going off the idea.

So, where else?

Ideally, it would be somewhere I haven"t stayed before. Now price is a factor and on looking through the deals i can find it"s (at the moment) a toss up between the Monte Carlo and Bally"s (still looking).

I think Bally"s has the edge (location-wise) but the MC has The Pub.

Decisions, decisions.

Any other idea bearing in mind financial constraints?

Use this to try and bid on a good place - this was how I got Vdara for £45 a night last year. Remember to add resort fees on top.

I have just got back and stayed at The Flamingo. Very impressed got the room for $500/week and  rooms impressed me especially for the value. Also such a central venue that you cant go wrong imo

Thanks for those....I"ve stayed at the FlamingO in a GO room a couple of year back.

Vdara, I"m not keen on City Center....too freakin far from anywhere.

I"m leaning towards Ballys myself...I"ve not stayed there, the prices are decent (no resort fee) and I hear the $20 trick works most of the time.

At worst, I"m not UNHAPPY with the Excal but I"ve been there and done that....

Found on VegasChatter today...quite handy I thought since Ger and I will be there then. I had, on a previous Xmas trip, noticed that it was a little quieter but not perhaps as drastic as the writer of the article has pointed out.

We"ll see.

Quote

Ever since this writer has been visiting Las Vegas, he always made it a point to visit the week before Christmas. At first, available vacation dates just happened to fall during that week, but amidst our first trip we learned something awesome about the week before Christmas in Vegas. It"s AWESOME.

The week before Christmas is the most dead week of the year in Las Vegas. A dealer at MGM Grand mentioned that the hotel was only at 25% capacity even though the hotel was hosting teams from the Las Vegas Bowl and a national cheerleader competition. (It was as creepy as Dance Moms on TV.)

Beside hotel rooms being extremely cheap, we found it very easy get reservations at any restaurant at any time. In fact, reservations the week before Christmas may not even be necessary. The tables in the casino aren"t very busy so we"ve never had a problem getting in on a game with a group of friends. We"ve even found ample elbow room at that. Since there are so few people, the cocktail waitresses are able to bring drinks faster than any other time of the year, too.

The week before Christmas is a great time of the year to explore new things in Las Vegas. The lower hotel room prices can allow you the ability to stay in a more luxurious hotel then you normally would. The quiet time also can allow you to gain access to places you"d normally not be able to get into or to try things you"ve avoided because of crowds.

Even though this writer lives in Las Vegas now, he still takes this time of the year as an excuse to take a staycation in Las Vegas. It"s almost time that our friends book their flights which also means that it"s almost time to look for rooms. Happy Holidays!

So the debate still rages in my head...Monte Carlo or Ballys.

The price differential isn"t quite as great as I had thought since I found a couple of offers at the MC.

I"ll be centre Strip for a couple of weeks so Ballys would be more of the same and since the MC has easy access to City Center it"ll be handy for a visit of nothing else.

On a real plus side, Monte Carlo has The Pub.  ;D

Offers I have found are:

3 nights - $187.00 with nothing added or

3 nights - $213.00 with
- Invited Guest Check-in
- The Social Band
- All Day Happy Hour at The Pub
- 15% Off Retail Outlets
- 20% Off Any Minus5 Packages
- 15% Off Food Purchases at d.vino or Dragon Noodle Co.

So pay $26 more but get All Day Happy Hour at The Pub...I think I would get my money"s worth over 3 days...don"t you?

I"d been hearing things for a while about how quite (and on some occasions, badly run) the poker room at Tropicana was but yesterday the announcement came that the Trop"s room would be closing.

They have $16k of bonus money that have (by law) to give away. Pity we"re not there now.

To be honest...other than a bit of tarting up and perhaps making it easier to get around the casino I don"t expect much to change. I"m not hearing anything about an room refurbs.
