A year without online poker?
« on: July 04, 2012, 22:34:38 PM »
I"m sitting here and I"m bored.... so bloody bored! Why am I bored? I have 3 poker clients open and I am playing various different games; NLHE, PLO, PLO8 and PL Badugi. Do I care if I win? Not particularly. Why am I doing it then? Got nothing else to do I suppose.

Rinse and repeat.

I have been feeling this for a while now but just for online poker, I still enjoy playing live; random trips to Stockton, a trip to DTD to play a big one and nipping into a casino at 1am to play some cash or a trip to Cardiff to play an APAT.

To add to the feeling when I got bored I would load up those shiny casino games in the client. Kiss goodbye to a large wedge and then I am struggling for the month. Not a good place to be.

So after 8 years of playing online poker, I think I"m done.

I don"t feel successful at best I have broken even over time. But to be honest I do not have the inclination to put the time and effort required to work on my game and make it better. I"d get bored doing that too.

In an effort to get the enjoyment of my hobby back I have decided to remove all the poker clients from my computer (bar one, Stars so I can rail a lot of my friends and the league).

I will still be playing live, I will still be participating in the community and this is not a "I give up poker speech". I wont and I dont really think I can, I have too much fun when socialising with some of the people I have met through poker, so I"m not giving that up!

So for this year what am I going to do instead;

Become a landlord
Learn to produce music on a computer (quality will be questionable)
See how much money I can save in year
Perhaps start up an online business and provide some focus in that to do it properly
Donate my time to the Prince"s Trust to help younger people than me start up on their own or help guide them into the world of work.
(Not annoy my girlfriend as much by being able to leave the laptop alone for longer than 5 mins from 55 to 00 during an hour)

So I start this off today, I"m not sure how often I will update it but I felt I just needed to write some stuff down

See you on the real felt.....

Best of luck to you JB.

Note my signature - I made a similar decision a while back and now hardly ever play online.

I don"t think I could ever get bored of helping others, and wish you well particularly with your work for Prince"s Trust

That combination is a disaster waiting to happen. Doesn"t matter how I know this - I just do.
