Olympics
« on: July 27, 2012, 10:31:58 AM »
Are we excited about the Olympics?

What are we most looking forward too?

Are the people who live in London already fed up with it all?

How many medals will GB get?

I'm looking forward to the cycling and the rowing, mainly because this is where we will get most of our medals

I'm going for 70 medals  (is it too late for a sweepstake)

Was going to put this in the sports section but most of us don't look at that section so please don't move it Paulie :o

Getting pissed off watching some TV this morning, and seeing how everyone in London is suddenly excited by the torch relay - just because it hasn"t been in London for the past seven weeks, doesn"t mean it hasn"t been happening..... however now that it"s in London, it"s headline news. The pundits and commentators seem amazed by the atmosphere, and the fact that people are lining the streets to see the torch - ffs it"s been like that all over the country for nearly two months, without making headline news.     Amazingly, Britain does exist outside of London!

:)

Can"t wait for tonight though. And am off the Millenium Stadium next Wednesday for the footy - Mexico v Switzerland and Great Britain v Uruguay.

Can"t believe it"s seven years since the games were awarded - feels like yesterday. Such a special time for Britain.

Without sounding as pi$$ed off with it as Steve  ;) Must be very nice if you live in London. Must be nice if your local amenities have been improved, you have had some fantastic development in your area which generated new jobs, increased prospects, boosted the local economy, more income coming in from travellers overseas and everyones smiling, slapping backs and have a massive chuffy on.

Personally feel so dissociated from it all.. I know its "our" games, my captial city.. but it might as well be on another planet.

I tried to get motivated to watch some random run past with the torch the other week, after all this is a once in a lifetime thing, but felt complete apathy towards it. Will watch the opening ceremony tonight with mini Phil over a beverage and some popcorn.. but again it"ll feel like watching it in another country.

I"m hoping for a bronze in the stud x

Love the Olympics!! Not many sports I won"t be watching.. Might skip the gymnastics and synchronised swimming though.. Especially looking forward to track and field athletics, aswell the cycling rowing, archery and shooting.

Hoping for a record medal haul, perhaps being held on home soil will give the athletes an extra %..

I"m excited about the Olympics. I"ll be watching a lot of it on tv and just enjoying it for what it is - a festival of sport.

Got tickets for the Mens Football Quarters - winner of Group B vs 2nd in our group, and the Athletics finals on the 7th.

I"ve got tickets for beach volleyball, some random track and field heats and the women"s football final

I"m hoping to see for free the swim part of the women"s triathlon, and I"m going to see at least a bit of all the random Olympic stuff that"s just dotted around London in places like Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square.

I"ll watch a fair bit of the rest on telly/online particularly the swimming.

So I"d say I am quite looking forward to it yest  :)

I"m spending actual money - have to make sure it"s worthwhile  ::)

The beach volleyball is 4 matches - men, women, women, men - which is really handy because that means I can arrive late and leave early  :D
