Great North Run / Buy Phil a beerathon
« on: August 20, 2012, 12:13:46 PM »
Ladies and Gents

Its that time of the year again where myself and a couple of the Stockton Massive (Gary Palmer / Mark Wright) do the Great North Run.

Now before you go.... "FFS hes after money again". Well yes I am.. but with a slight twist.

Firstly this is my last ever Great North. I promise. Its my 10th half marathon and I honestly shouldnt be doing it this year, broke my arm in a few places last year, stopped playing footy and I"m the heaviest I"ve ever been. Little to zero training performed.

Last year a friend of mine stopped me at around the 12 mile mark outside a pub and I stopped for a swift half. Which got me thinking. Theres a few pubs along the way, I"m thinking of stopping off at each one for a half along the way catch my breath and enjoy the banter.

We"re raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care this year. If you would like to sponsor this attempt there"s two ways you can help.

1. Gary Palmer (gjp100 / boromarvin) has set up a just giving page. The photo is Gary if surprisingly you don"t recognise him.. for those asking if I will be dressing up the same. Just no.  ;D http://www.justgiving.com/runlikeadaffodil

2. Guinness. I like Guinness very much. So with this in mind, if you don"t want to sponsor directly using the above link I"ve come up with a genius alternative. If you"re at DTD this weekend on any day from Friday to Sunday (won"t be drinking Monday), and buy me a Guinness I will make a note of your name, and put £5 sponsorship out of my own pocket* onto the just giving site from you. Will cap this at £150 over the weekend.

* I know its not really coming out of my own pocket.. as I"m getting a Guinness. This way I kind of see it as a win / win situation :)

Thanks for your support in advance. Promise this will be last year.

Phil x

Thanks for the support folks and please spread the word if you can.  Let"s see if we can destroy Phil"s liver raise some money for a great cause.

Drinking for charity or dressing like a daffodil?  Guess we know who the brains of the Stockton Massive is - or at least who definitely isn"t!   ;D

Right.

I"ve hammered the bank account even more after the weekend and posted all the beerathon donations to the Just Giving page which you can see here https://www.justgiving.com/RunLikeADaffodil

Would like to thank everyone who bought me a beer and helped me in my training schedule  ;D

Anyone who missed getting me a beer or caught me with an already full one, you can still sponsor through the link above.

Anyone who bought me a beer and I"ve missed you off the list just let me know. There was some very blurry moments.

Was a fantastic weekend, really enjoyed it and the APAT company was as always legendary.

Thank you all so much.

Thanks so much for everyone"s support on this - particularly to Phil for sacrificing his liver and brain cells!   ;D

It"s less thank 2 weeks to the run now and we"ve nearly hit the £600 target - just £38.50 to go.  I won"t bump this again after today, because I don"t want to annoy people, but if anyone can donate to a great cause - even just £1, then please visit the link in my signature.

Huge thanks to those that have already donated directly or via Guinness - it"s massively appreciated!  :-*
