Hi all

Just been chatting to Steve Redfern on facebook re: Pingpong.

I"ve only recently started playing (I played quite a bit on holiday last month, though that was the first time I"d picked up a bat since I was a kid - and then I only played a handful of times). Therefore I am pretty much "total beginner" standard, though it seems to be a game where you can quickly pick the basics up.

So... quite fancying a game, I"ve come up with the:

The Official APAT* UK Table Tennis Championships, to be held on Sunday 27th January in Luton!

This is the morning of the 2nd day of the Team Event, and will be arranged to allow plenty of time to get back to your hotel and have a shower/get changed etc. before day 2 starts. (this might mean a "on the table" time of 10am (again depending on number of runners), so a relatively early start for some of you!...).

Entry will be £5 or £10 each (depending on number of runners), and will pay for the tables, bat hire (though feel free to bring your own if you have one), and a funky trophy for the winner. Any remaining cash left over will be paid out to the 2 finalists on a 65%/35% split.

Just getting a list of people who are interested at this stage. If there"s enough, I"ll look in to hiring tables, sort out a format (mini league/knock-out) etc. etc.

So, if you want to play, add your name to this list. Please also mention roughly how good you are, how long you"ve played for, and any other relevant PingPong info etc.

Update: Blimey, this is proving to be a lot more popular than I anticipated. I"m therefore limiting it to 12 16 entries to start with. (may increase this later once I"ve thought of a format to accomodate everyone!). However, still stick your name on a Reserve list if we have the initial 12 16, and you"ll get to play if there are any dropouts, or (more likely) I work out a way so that everyone can play :) (we may have to find a nearby place with several tables!).

ha, this is proving a little more popular than I thought it might.

So, I"m going to limit the number of entrants to 12 to start with, or we"ll be at the venue all day!...

In dependent on if I can actually get there on the Sunday morning.

Never played the game before in my life but I have to be better than Stu Ward.

Following on from my silver medal in the APAT Wakeboarding Championship, I"ll obviously be keen to have a go at this, so long as the clubs and safety equipment are provided.
