Having smashed the field in Week 1, with 3 on the FT, we faced a much tougher task last night as 4 of our 6 players were involved in other tournaments and were sitting out for the first hour and a half. Although a couple of them rebuilt their stacks, ultimately it was too much and we ended up in the ludicrous position of only having one player on the FT and finishing 10th of the 26 teams, which was a pathetic result. The upshot is that we have slid down the rankings to 2nd in the league, which is just not acceptable. I have considered my position, but have decided to give myself another chance. However, we must do better than this in future. We can recover from this disaster by taking inspiration from the words of Shakira at the Oxford Union, when she said "I strongly believe that the best is yet to come":

One ray of light was the performance of our Justin, who made it to the FT for the second week in a row to go top of the individual rankings. It was a super achievement when he finished 1st in the individual rankings over the year for the whole Online League previously http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=8549.0, but it is amazing that he has now done it again http://www.apat.com/forum/index.php?topic=13230.0. Justin was inspired to hang in when the going got tough by Shakira"s persistence in tackling poverty, disease and lack of education. So it"s the final qualifying round of the Online Cup and the Shakira team is still riding high at the top of the league - okay, down from 1st to 2nd, maybe.

Although we have already qualified for the next round, we"d still like to do well in the final qualifier, particularly as the next round is seeded and it will increase our chances of being matched against a dodgy side like BCPC rather than one of the tougher teams.

Like all the other teams, we are trying to work out whether we can qualify.

With 17 players left in the tournament, we still have 3 alive. Our 4th finisher was 36th.

We started tonight in second place in the league. Feeding our best/worst/likely points into the computer suggests that we are still in with a good chance of qualifying.

Back to full strength, we did our thing and ate this competition again last night. It wasn"t plain sailing all the way so, when the pressure points came, we put out some Shak Attack moves that our opponents did not understand.



We don"t mean to gloat but, on the other hand, we do really, so here it is.

After the qualifying rounds, we are so far in front that, if this was a league all the way through, they would stop it now and give us the prize.

We will not underestimate the other team and will be preparing thoroughly for our match against The Untouchables. Discussing her role as a coach on The Voice, Shakira said "When I"m giving directions to my contestants, I"m particularly focused on details." We will have to be the same.
