Newbies Live Poker in Manchester

Just joined the forum so forgive me if this is posted in the wrong area.
I am fairly new to the poker scene and only bother with free rolls at the moment. I have twice finished in the top 20 out of 700 plus player games. At the most played about 10 of these games so that doesnt sound too bad to me?

I have also played most of the other freerolls. Anyway I am eager to venture down to the Grosvenor in Salford. I was wondering if anyone goes there and what are the games like live?
I am only going for the enjoyment right now, nothing heavy.

I can see myself entering small tournaments at some stage so I am guessing live games would help me out. Sorry if you have heard all this before but we all have to start somewhere!

Welcome to APAT anyway ghost.. Its a good a place to start as any.

Now I cant help you with what is on in Salford, but I suggest that you try and get the number of the casino, and give the cardroom a ring and they will probably be able to tell you what games they have on, and what nights they are on. Most cardrooms have a schedule which they pretty much keep to.

Look out for the next APAT regional competition, which is a £20 game, and the local game to you will be in the G Casino, Manchester on the 17th May. This venue is very popular, so you will need to phone them up a week before the game to register.

I would venture to that particular event but I will be in Spain! Wonder if there are any games going in Costa Del Sol!!! I wish i was going. They have given me a schedule and they have £3 rebuy events.

Them events will be a good introduction to live poker in my opinion. Its what a lot of people start with, and if you play quite tight you can amount a vast pile of chips, ok you will lose a few, get outdraw, wonder how the hell people can go all in with 7 2 off, but once the rebuy period is finished, its a normal game of poker..

Yes the rebuys really do my head in! People just go all in and rebuy, all in, rebuy etc, etc I can play and I got to 20th and 21st on BetFair freerolls out of 740+ players, not bad for a newbie. I just want to experience the live play. One silly question... Say I start a game and it goes on for a few hours do you just have to keep playing until you win your table or what? I want to be able to get up for work in the morning!

If you get to the final table and the money, it will be a late one (about 3-4 am) especially if its a well attended tourney. Be prepared for a zombiefied day at work!

I dont think its a tourny night just normal games, so would it be the last player with most chips wins or would others be allowed to buy in at table i am on once game has started? This is what puzzles me. How are casino games normally played when its NOT a tournament?

That would be a cash game then.

You buy in for whatever ammount you want, depending on the casino limits, most games have a minimum buy in, some have a maximum buy in too. The chips have a monetary value, equivalent to the ammount you buy into. (so buy in for £100 and get £100 worth of chips)

blinds vary depending on the game. The lowest is normally £1/£1.

You can leave the table whenever you like, with whatever ammount of chips you have got, though it is probably poor ettiquette to leave straight after a big double up.

Hi Ghost and co, I looked into this the other week, not had time to go yet tho.
For the new "Riverside", Grosvenor in Salford. Here are the details,

On a Wednesday, they play a £30 double chance freeze out, Max of 96 players. Should there be 50 or more players, the guaranteed payout is £2000, in other words they will boost the pot with an extra £500. It"s a 20:45 start, so you have to be registered by 20:30. As i say, hoping to make this one myself very soon, may see you there  
Not sure about other nights or smaller rebuys, but £30 only equates to 2 re-buys, and you"ll have a much better experience at this format anyways. G.L.

dont know too many poker clubs, but if its a start to playing live you want then I can recommend the Pub league that I play in. £5 entry, no juice, decent structure and starting stack.
