Best Western is 5 miles away but seems a bargain at £49/night.

By the time you pay for taxis back and forth, Travelodge it is.  That"s where we"ve booked anyway.  Prefer the idea of stumbling right next door besides having to navigate further afield.

I think it depends why you are going to this event. For those who are going to play poker and can drive back and forth the casino, which provides free parking, then the 49/night is a great deal. There is a cash tour on the Friday night also so plenty of poker to be had. If the cash game is not for you then Les Croupiers has a good Friday night Tournament £15 gives you 8000 chips with one re-entry allowed, they will have a good selection of cash games up there as well. If you bust the main event and are looking for a good Saturday evening tournament they do a 10K chip deepstack £20 with re-entry. You will not be short of good poker in Cardiff.

If you are turning up with the intention of being a bit squiffy on the Friday night (I have to stay pretty sober on this one as I CANNOT be ill or even slightly hungover the following day) and the rest of the weekend, then the Travelodge is the best option. We will be going into town on the Friday night for sure but for the rest of the weekend The Bay offers everything you need with a great selection of pubs and places to eat, especially in the summer, so you can stay on site without having to worry about getting back and forth. I might be booking it for the Friday night myself then going to Newport on the Saturday Morning.

Let"s look at this in practical terms.

What he happens to mean is "relatively" sober...and that"s fine.

His big problem is relative to what?

Ger, Phil, Stu, Dawn, Jack, erm...Me + several more reprobates I could name and shame?

DUCY?

Extra Strong Mints on Saturday morning FTW.

Park Inn by Radisson North Cardiff (about 4 miles drive away) are doing 20% off if you book 21-28 days in advance, and 10% for 14-21 I think.

This includes a family room which you can get 4 in for £127 total for Friday and Saturday). £95 for a Double or Twin, with additional pull out bed for a 3rd person.

Free parking and wifi.

Available by Hotels.com or Hotwire that I saw.

I am missing the APAT for it so yeah think there is a fair chance I will manage to stay sober on the Friday night. Will still be there though 100%.

Technically Adam is correct as strictly speaking the club is not the same club as was in the football league previously. However in all reality it is the same club via the fans so yes, it is the first football league game for the club in 25 years.
