Have had to put the 6 max on hold for a while (stoped as soon as i started really - just one losing session).
I"m currently playing a STT challenge on Poker.co.uk, but it is available on any boss site. Basically you play as many STTs as you can in a week and the person with the most wins wins a huge cash prize. I"m obviously not going to win it but I may have a chance of a top 50 finish which would bank me a few Euro.
whilst i was doing this, I played in the PCUK forum 150 added league game and tried the 3.5K gtd (11 euro entry). I busted out early from the league game, but had a great run in the other tourney.
There were 415 runners and typically this field is down to 140 after the first hour. It is a proper donkfest, with patience being the key in the first hour or so. I didn"t pick up a hand in the first hour but a good run of cards got me to the end of the second hour, albeit short stacked.
In the third hour I finally got above average chips with the following hand at the 750/1500/150 level. In MP i get 45o. My stack is 11K ish, so with an M of 3 and the absolute nuts in my hand, I shove. I pick up 2 callers, 44 and AK both who have me outchipped. I managed to bink a 5 on the turn, trebled up and was running in the top 5 with about 40 left.
Once I was chipped up, I never looked back and was running top 5 all the way to the final table, which I dominated, thanks to picking up hands at exactly the correct time. I had the dream scenario where you raise 3 times in an orbit to take down the blinds and the very next hand pick up AA, whereupon the non believers put you to the test. I passed. The test that is, NOT the aces. I was a massive CL with 4 left and, after another guy had taken out 3rd and 4th, had a 60/40 lead going heads up.
Now, I"m normally modest about my abilities in this game, and rightly so, but being a primarily STT player, I rarely get to HU where I dont feel I have the edge. The blinds to stack ratio was bigger than I"m used to but I was still dominating this battle too and felt confident, untill....
blinds 5000/10000/500, my stack my stack 360K, oppo 240K. I get A3 in the SB and raise to 25K, oppo calls. Flop came 235, giving me middle pair and a gutshot. I"m thinking this flop has missed most hands my oppo would call a preflop raise with so I"m ready top go to war. If he has a monster, I have outs!!. Oppo checks, I lead for 35K into the 51K pot, oppo min reraises to 70K, which set off the alarm bells, but I"d already decided I was getting my chips in here. I shove, he calls and tables A4 for the flopped straight. No help for me and I"m down to 120K to his 480K. A few hands later I open shove with T7s and get called by AJo. Board ran T A T giving me trips turn blank, river A giving him a better boat.
I finish second for 664 euro. Not bad for 4 hours work!!
Maybe I overplayed the A3 v A4 hand, but cant think about it properly without being too results orientated.
Am up to about 70th on the STT leaderboard as well!
