Be interesting if N.Korea people decide to revolt...How quick would the west intervene then!?

probably as quick as they do in Zimbabwe when people get murdered turning up to vote in elections.

Is there any oil in North Korea / Zimbabwe? ...

...didn"t think so

How did the West intervene in the countries which do have oil?

Obviously you were talking about Iraq and Kuwait, I was questioning the relevance.

The statement about North Korea was related to current events, you were suggesting that Western intervention was based on whether a country produces oil- but every country affected by current and recent events has been an oil producer and there has been no intervention.

So going back several years and ignoring the up to date evidence is the best you can do to back up your assertion? Have you considered becoming a tabloid journalist?

So Ireland goes to the polls today. Interesting to note is that, of the 566 candidates, 233 are classed as independent. Now for those of you who don't know, Irish politics was traditionally dominated by two parties, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael. There was a Labour party which was kind of the junior partner, but recently the Green party (which is actually in coalition at the moment) has emerged. Funnily enough Sinn Fein, held nearly as many seats as the Greens in the outgoing parliament.

So given the makeup of the parties, the number of independents and the fact that Ireland uses the system of proportional representation what are the bets on a hung Dail, with neither of the two main parties getting an overall majority.

Horse trading will be rife come Saturday afternoon as the results trickle through, to see who"s ready to get into bed with who.

Also at the moment because of the money problems there has been a return of large-scale emigration - currently estimated at 1,000 people per week. How long before Ireland becomes empty? (approx 76 years at that rate)  ;D

OK before I launch into another wee tale of the "ould lad" (This one being the one and only time he was literally speechless) I thought you might like to see a picture of him and me Ma. This was my parents wedding day in 1947, apologies that it is a picture of a picture but its the only one I cound find as well. The fecker was camera shy  ;D

My father was never a quiet man, no pun intended about John Wayne,  in fact if Marconi employed him he would not have had to send electronic signals he could just put the ould lad on the Cliffs of Moher and ask him to transmit.

I got up one Saturday in a wee bit of bother, must have been something I ate on the night before. The ould lad had work for me so it was obscenely early. I struggled into the Kitchen and the ould lad was at the table and me Ma was at the cooker. Now she had the most fabulous of smiles on her face. She was positively beaming.

"Morning Son" says she "Full Irish"
"Aye" says I

"Ma did you win the sweepstake last night" says I
"No, why" says she
"Cos you look unreasonably happy this morning" says I

"Oh no" says she "Something better has occurred"

Wow, what was up here, my befuddled mind was too slow to keep up here.

"OK I give up what the feck has you in such a good mood" says I
"Oh it's the small things in life that make a difference" says she

I looked at the ould lad and he looked so uncomfortable that I thought he had found a penny and lost a pound.

"Your Father has lost his voice" she beamed
"How?" says I
"I'll let him tell you, Oh sorry he can't" says she breaking into hysterics

If looks could kill I would be dead as the ould lad gave me daggers, WTF it was nothing I did FFS.

To be contd....

Exit polls in Ireland suggest that the biggest party will be Fine Gael ("Bueshirts"). "Historically portraying itself as a party of fiscal rectitude and minimal government interference in economics."

Yeah right. I think it's just the old swings and roundabouts, "We didn't like the last lot etc etc". Labour look to have a good showing this time out due maybe to "We didn't like the last lot etc etc, and we don't much care for the alternative either" brigade.

As predicted Fine Gael will not have enough of a majority but in the past have jumped into bed with the Irish Labour Party. The independents could be the largest body in opposition. Either way the country is still fecked....

I sat down for my life giving, cholesterol busting breakfast and marvelled at the peace and quiet.

The ould lad passed over a piece of paper which had the list of today's jobs written on it. FML he was taking out whatever happened to him on me. The jobs were the worst and were usually held off until the last possible minute. Or maybe there might be one bad one, but this was the full monty of shyte jobs.

"For fecks sake Da, this is bollix" says I
from the ould lad with an evil grin
"What the feck did I do to deserve this" says I
from the ould lad with an evil grin

My Mother glanced at the list.

"Michael, do you want me to tell Gerard how you lost your voice" says she

The ould lad looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights and snatched the list off me altering the worst jobs. Jesus it must have been one hell of a reason for the voice loss. I knew better than to grill me Ma so I finished the breakfast in companionable silence and went out to make a start on the jobs. Jimmy Healy was emerging from his house as I passed.

"Great craic about your father last night" says he
"What the feck happened" says I
"Oh I'll let him tell you" says he
"He can't" says I
"I know, I know" he cackled

Everyone I passed seemed to have a wee smile on their face as the bid me good morning. What the feck happened. I made up my mind that before lunch time some fecker would tell me.

Contd..

LOL at the BBC using Agincourt as the lead in to the match. Nothing like a good boost of 600 year old reminders eh !
