Just watched the start of the women"s marathon in the Worlds. Now this insane race is 26 miles and 385 yards (42.194k) and the Russian officials were pedantically making sure that there were no toes over the start line WTF.

I awoke this morning and lay in my bed with the windows open listening to the world and Colin"s lawmower. Now Colin has lived directly opposite me since 1990 and is one of those people who is a wee bit OCD. He is forever washing their two cars and trimming his front landscape to the nth degree.

I looked at the clock and it was 11.15, as I lay quietly contemplating life the mower kept droning on. Now Colin has a three bed detached and the backyard of his house is about the same size as mine and I was intrigued as to why the mower was still droning on at 11.35. I then had to take Ger to work and now as I sit typing this at 12.05 the mower is still on the go.

Does he start with the height at the highest setting, drop it a millimeter and go over it again, rinse and repeat. I don"t know, but it does intrigue me..........

Was going to go into the garden armed with a chair and a beer in order to watch the annual firework display in the sky known as the Perseids meteor shower.

But then sanity returned so I stayed in my current chair with my said beer.

There are things in my life that I have done that have disappointed me. But because I got the chance to try I have absolutely no regrets. Regret is reserved for not being able do things that I really wanted to do. Some of these cannot be repeated because the time has gone. Other things can still be done if I really put my mind to it.

There is now a recent regret that I must suffer, along with abject disappointment. I was fortunate enough to get an invitation to an epic event. To share a person's happy day with a bunch of people I have grown to love very much.

Due to a heavy work load and a three line whip I must now regretfully decline the kind offer from an exceptional couple on their most important day.

Humblest apologies, Phil & Lilly, I cannot be there to share your day. But may you have health and happiness for the rest of your life and I hope to see you soon.

Gutted.....

He has installed a track to which he tethers the mower and it runs on a loop projecting sound into the kitchen* where his wife is busying herself and on hearing said noise is convinced Colin is also busy... Whereas in fact he has fecked off to the pub

*not necessarily kitchen Sisters. Could just as easily be the garage, oil refinery etc.

Theme of the commentary around the UK team in the World Championship Athletics.

"so and so has not qualified for the final"

"Well, so and so has had a succession of injuries leading into these championships"

Did the UK send a high percentage of crocks ?
