Our final two players, Colman and Volpe, fell just before the 27 mark, so we have no-one left as the Main Event goes into its final day before it breaks til November. Last year we had all kinds of possibilities at this stage, but not this time.

I really think the WSOP needs to organise itself better so that the right players get onto the final table. Lots of the coolest players were knocked out yesterday, when there could have been a way found to see them through. We needed to see more of these players.

For a start, we lost a couple of the best beards in the competition - surely the final table would have benefitted from the presence of Alex Keating and Jesse Cohen:

Alex Keating 35th                                             Jesse Cohen 51st

We also lost the chance of seeing more of awesome movie star dude Paul Hoefer:

Paul Hoefer 43rd

And I really wanted to see more of Jasthi Kumar, seen below during the tournament and then celebrating afterwards with his family:

Jasthi Kumar 58th

But, most of all, I was looking forward to a final table appearance from self-hypnotist Adi Abugazal, who put himself into a trance at the start of Day 1A and successfully convinced himself he was the greatest poker player in the world:

Adi Abugazal 54th

We know they do it online all the time so, next year, the WSOP needs to stack those decks so we see the players we want in the November Nine.

So which players did well? Who flopped?

After a slow start, Mercier obviously tore it up with two 1sts and a 2nd (and an 8th), winning Player of the Year.
Some of the other best performances overall:

Benny Glaser - 1stx2, 5th, 6th
Ian Johns - 1stx2
Michael Gathy - 1st, 2ndx2
Brandon Shack-Harris - 1st, 2nd, 5th
Ryan D"Angelo - 1st, 3rd, 4th
Rep Porter - 1st, 9th, 10th
Justin Bonomo - 2ndx2, 3rdx2
John Monette - 2nd, 3rdx2, 7th, 9thx2
Randy Ohel - 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th, 10th

For me, though, the best performance throughout the Series came from this man:

Only one final table (4th), and a few near misses, but he plugged away, cashing in ten events, to finish ninth in the Player of the Year. That was an extraordinary achievement after several years of not playing live, all the time facing people who were resentful of him and willing him to fail.

And who flopped? Obviously, you were let down by the ones who scored zero or very little on the list above, some of whom didn"t turn up. Gorodinsky went from Player of the Year last time to two pathetic cashes and Ashton just had three, all low-placed ones. Moorman was also poor. For me, the biggest disappointment was Urbanovich, who was taking bets beforehand on winning three bracelets and just managed three cashes, with no final tables.

Next time, ignore some of the no-hopers above, and put your money on these players, who did APAT / LPPL proud:

Lee Mulligan
James Edwards
Brian Yates
Tod Wood
David Stones
Sean Byrne
Ben Murray

Staker Main Event £250 Prize.

Looks like theres now 4 players staked still in:

Tom Middleton 2 stakers for £2000 in total (presumably 14.35% each) currently 59th/80

James Obst 2 stakers for £8700 total (100% plus 25%?) 29th/80

Max Silver 2 stakers for £4000 (28.7% x 2) 39th/80

Paul Volpe 1 staker who has £1500 on (21.5%) 13th/80

I haven"t include anyone who has cashed already.

I know Carl has 28.7% of Silver. Whoever backed James Obst looks in pole position due to the %s taken.

Tom Feilding has 100% on Obst.

I did? Wooo! So does this mean I"ve binked the Main Event prize whilst sitting 120th from 122 on the main leaderboard?

STAKER - WSOP #68: $10,000 Main Event No Limit Hold'em Championship

Staker          Profit
Tom Feilding          £290,880
Des Duffy          £  67,500
Richard Prew          £  41,594
Carl Pilgrim          £  40,323
Del Watson          £  25,544
Alan Ellis          £  12,526
Craig Dawson          £    8,803
Ross Warren          £    8,167
Simon Lawlor          £    1,585

You gotta take some chances, and Tom took a chance by putting his whole stake on one player. That player was James Obst, when finished 13th, giving no-one else any chance of taking the prize.

Richard and Carl had percentages of Max Silver (33rd); Del had some of Paul Volpe (29th), while Alan and Ross had part of Tom Middleton (56th). Until those players were eliminated, it was still possible for their stakers to to win the £250, despite holding smaller shares, given the way the prize money accelerates as you climb the finishing places. The only one of the top group who couldn"t win it was Des, who had a smaller percentage of Obst, so could never finish ahead of Tom, once his other players were out.

Craig also went down the 100% route but, if you do that, you gotta choose the guy who"s going to be 13th, not 499th as luckychewy Andrew Lichtenberger was.

Congrats Tom!

Yes many thanks for this was a great free promotion cheers APAT. Re the Goliath seat, does the 120 get added to our Grosvenor account as a token and we buy in to a day 1 of our choosing online?
