80 players survived Day 5, with big names crashing all around.
Our last two survivors are Volpe and Colman. A few selectors have Volpe, but Luca is one of them, so that"s not going to help the chasers. Irish Tom and Simon Lawlor have Colman, but that won"t affect the outcome either. It could be a big finish by Tom, as he and Chris have Anderson, still plugging away in #69. If Colman and Anderson both win, Tom will make a massive surge up the leaderboard to just fall agonisingly close to not being last.
We also had Mike Gorodinsky until just before the end, but he made a dodgy call for all his chips and is out.
Gorodinsky - questionable judgement The battle to be the final woman in the tournament came down to Weisner and Baumann. In the end, they were both eliminated quite close to each other, with Baumann lasting slightly longer. Baumann revealed afterwards that she had made a large bet when she was previously last woman in 2012, which required her not to eat until she repeated the achievement.
Gaelle - hasn"t eaten since 2012Melanie - no eating problemsThe great Don Zewin came third in the Main way back in the Hellmuth-Chan year and was heads-up when Hellmuth won bracelet 12. Zewin constantly looks worried, but he had good reason this time, being near the bottom of the chip-counts for at least two days, though he still managed to reach Day 5, finishing 135th.
Zewin - no need to worry nowThe last two surviving former champs, Chan and Raymer, left the tournament, Raymer"s table-mates breathing a sigh of relief and budging up a space.
Raymer - a big personality Antoine Saout, who finished third in 2009 (and 7th in the WSOPE the same year) still has a chance of making the Main final table for a second time, finishing the day in 15th position. I see that Andrei Konopelko of the famous Konopelko-Konopelko tag team, is riding high in 12th place. I think I"m going to hitch my wagon to him for the remainder.
Unfortunately, the wonderfully-named Noeung Troeung won"t be on the final table, being eliminated in 147th place, but we do have Philip Postman in 41st.
