Looking to get a cheapish laptop with wireless to share with mi mum, ill only really be using it for poker and the internet, does it matter which laptop i get? Do poker sites need so much ram or a quick processer?

I use a Dell Latitude D630 - the spec is pretty high (work laptop), but it doesnt run Stars, BSQ, Titan, DTD, or Party any quicker or better than my wife"s very budget spec Acer laptop.

Get a phone on a monthly package from Carphone Warehouse, and you get the Acer for free :)

Dell have an "Outlet" section tucked away on their website which does refurbs.  I"m quite a fan of Morgan Computers as well, which does refurbs and "as new".  Better spec for fewer big bets!

I got an Advent computer a few years back and it was perfectly good. I was dubious at first as wasn"t as well known as the bigger brand computer companies but for the same price all the specs were almost double whatever the nearest big brand PC was in that price bracket. I never had any problems with it and sold it on when I was upgrading...

If you"re looking at spending £300 on a laptop, this Brand New Acer with Dual Core Pentium Processor, 1GB Memory, Windows Vista Home Premium, 1 Year Warranty and a free Targus Case and Mouse is a very good deal.

At nearly 3kg it"s not the kinda laptop you"d want to be humphing about every day and when you want to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to it"s 2GB limit, you"d need to dump the two existing 512MB sticks and buy two 1GB sticks (£25 at time of posting). 2GB limit is low by the standards of other £400/£500ish laptops but will run poker and internet for at least a couple of years to come.

Advice: Don"t take the Norton 360 package. F-Secure Internet Security 2009 (not available on Dabs I see) is cheaper and better. I can supply and install it remotely for you for £40.

AVG Internet Security is just OK and at £40 it"s over-priced IMO.

Just give your computer a good clean with domestos once a week kills all know viruses at a fraction of the cost.
