The trends in player selection are quite interesting. Selectors have clearly been paying attention to players' performances at the WSOP and those who have failed to live up to their hype have been unceremoniously discarded. Some of the most popular players when we started this, who have not done well in recent years, have fallen right out of the lists.
There are other players who didn't feature at all at the start, but became popular and received a lot of selections in the last year or two, either due to having a good Series or high expectaions for their first attempt. Some of them have justified their selections and again appear high in the list, but there are others who failed to perform and have been dumped as fast as they came in.
Players' likeabilty means nothing to our ruthless selectors, who have discarded some of the most popular players, while a couple of very disliked players, who have performed well, have reappeared.
There are also a lot of new names this year, including some rising stars who have just been picked by one person this time. It will be interesting to see if any of those do well and become mainstays on everyone's lists in the future.
All will be revealed before long.
