When is A.P.A.T. not standing for Amateur ?

At the "Updates for the APAT Irish Open" link, references are made to some 'old' stalwarts' in attendance including Mick McClusky and then his Hendon record gets a second mention with the link. Congrats to him on his long and successful poker career but how does a player who has nearly U.S.600,000 in winnings still get to play in an (APAT) AMATEUR TOURNAMENT ??

Congrats to him on his long and successful poker career but how does a player who has nearly U.S.600,000 in winnings still get to play in an (APAT) AMATEUR TOURNAMENT ??

Pretty sure that the gent in question doesn't make his living from poker. $584,000 dollars spread over a 22 year period isn't much of a living. Even if he cashed in every tournament he ever played (which seems unlikely).

My understanding is that people who have had success in poker can still play APAT if poker is not their main source of income. Several well-known players have had a go at a stage when they have won a bit, but not so much that you could live on, the most recent example I can think of being Pia Jeppesen, who played the full WCOAP schedule last year without any objections that I know of (or much reward). I wouldn't want APAT events to be full of professionals (though it wouldn't be worth their while to play) but an occasional very successful player like Mick, who is also a very interesting individual, adds something to our event, and I'm glad he is willing to spend his time playing it. He crashed anyway, proving yet again that APATs are tougher than the big buy-in events.

How do you go about proving that poker isn't your main source of income though?

I am wondering how the tournament went. I wanted to play in 2020 but the pandemic had different plans. I have been really upset about it but hey what can we do if everything is closed. To not go crazy while staying at home during the self-isolation I started playing games in different online casino rooms. My main focus also shifted from poker to slots just because they are a lot more interesting and a little more risque). I have tried a few different casino rooms but my personal favorite is joker388. It is fairly new and so their prize pools are not that high just yet but they are on the path to greatness that is for sure. I think that if you guys never tired slots before you should give it a go. It might actually be something you will enjoy.
