Hello Ross,

I thank you for taking the time to contact PokerStars with your concerns.

PokerStars takes questions regarding our integrity very seriously, and
we appreciate the opportunity to respond.

I can certainly understand your frustrations; any poker player can.

You can be sure that no player knows what cards are coming, what other
players" cards are, or is able to manipulate the deal. There is no such
hacking software. We have not been given any indication or evidence that
such a program exists.

We have state of the art defense against and detection of hackers. For
details, please see our integrity page at:
http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html

I have reviewed thanmaiman"s account and the hand you have included.
Honestly I think that his playing style is definitely too risky and will
get him bankrupt in no time. Rest assured that in the end, crazy players
like him won"t go home with the cash. Of course, they do have excellent
runs once in a while, but in the end they will lose their money to better
players.

Although a skill game, poker has a tremendous amount of luck involved so
you will inevitably encounter players along the way that rely on luck
rather than on skill; thanmaiman is clearly one of these players.

I know losing after getting your money in with the best starting hand
feels terrible, but it really is just part of the game. We are not
singling you out, or targeting good players, or doing anything else other
than randomizing the deck and dealing the cards. There are very few hands
in poker which are locks, and bad beats are evidence of this fact.

Our shuffle is completely random, favoring or disfavoring no player over
any other. The computerized methods we use to shuffle the deck are more
than sufficient to ensure complete randomization of the cards, and
complete unpredictability of the cards to come. You can see the
description of these methods at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html

In addition, we track all hands dealt daily to see if there is any
statistically significant variance.

In fact, we gave the source code to two independent auditors who reviewed
our shuffle algorithm and found it sound and random. You may read the
analyses of these auditors at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/rng_audit.html

We have dealt over 21,000,000,000 hands, and have freely given out real
money hand histories any time somebody has requested them. Not once has
anybody found any indication that our shuffle is not 100% random, and many
who have undertaken such studies have posted their findings to the
Internet. You may find just two of them here:

http://tinyurl.com/32ajma
http://tinyurl.com/2wu99w

If you choose to play poker, you will see strange and outrageous things.
That"s the nature of the game. It"s unpredictable, and all sorts of
things will happen. You will take bad beats pretty much every time you
play. The hard part is not to let any of this affect your "mental game."
If you let it bother you, it will make you play badly, and that"s a
disaster. You should accept that the strange things that happen are just
part of the game (just like on TV, just like in the casinos, just like
everywhere poker is played) and focus your energy on playing as well as
you can.

When it comes to bad beats, as painful as they are to take, they are
actually a sign that you are playing good poker. If you are getting your
money in with the best of it, and losing only because your opponents get
lucky on you--the definition of a bad beat--then you are playing solid
poker. In the long run the math will catch-up with you, in a positive way.

Let us know if you have further questions or concerns. Thanks for playing
at PokerStars.

Regards,

Julio

I have to say that whilst I have empathy with your bad beat, Pokerstars reply was spot on.

That"s a great reply!  Sounds like the support people actually spend some of their spare time playing...
