Yeah a few people have mentioned the noise surrounding it, but och well. hopefully i"ll get a chance to play poker next time i"m over - was spending most of the time with the gf when I was there so just the usual - swimming pool or day trip during the day, meal at night then "teaching" her how to gamble --- "let it ride one more time, it"s going to come once more" she says with her $10 on black that has hit the last 6 times and accumulated to $640 - I simply refuse to let her and tell her to take the $640 off the table - of course it hits black AGAIN and I get an earful. lol... oh well - poker next time i"m sure!

MGM poker room is quite fishy (very LAG) so it pays to be either LAGier or TAG. At $1/$2 I couldn"t afford to be LAG so had to wait for good starting hands and play them strong. It wasn"t uncommon for me to raise it 4 or 5xBB PF from an early position, with my tight image and get three callers. I did OK with these kind of hands - I just seemed to be very difficult to call such PF Raises with anything that wasn"t a premium hand.

The rake is one of the highest in Vegas apparently, the tournaments are fairly well run but have a quick pace about them and the SnGs are just bonkers quick. They seem to want you in and out as soon as possible after having paid your rake.

Getting stightly off topic but I have found that most of the poker in Vegas is quite Fishy. Compaired to say an APAT event  .
Lots of tourists with lots of money and lots of gamble in them.

With a max of $4 (+ $1 for jackpot, if applicable), it is only a fraction of what you"ll pay in any UK cardroom.

Oh, and at $1/£2NL, table image doesn"t mean a thing to a table full of LV tourists... if you want to thin the field when you have a premium hand make it 8x - 10x BBs. And most important rule of all - If you have the nuts, the value bet size on the river is always ALL-IN... you will get called often enough to make it profitable.

Maybe I should have made it clearer... the advice is "when you have the NUTS" AND CANNOT be out-drawn.

Whilst AA is the best poss hand PF and technically the nuts at that point, we all know it can and often does, change by the river!!

But the example does kinda validate my point about raise sizes and value bets... I"ll bet your $500 push didn"t get multiple callers (narrowed field size) AND you pushed with the nuts (assuming this was PF... if it wasn"t then you didn"t have the nuts) and got called by an inferior hand.
