As everyone opens this up and reads asking the question, cricket !! What"s cricket got to do with poker, obviously nothing  ;)

I have decided to start this blog as I"m winding down at work as I approach a 12 week sabbatical.  During this time I will try to keep everyone amused with some of my poker exploits during this period, of which I"m sure there will be a few as I intend to play as much as I can online and squeeze even more live games in without work for once being a consideration, until that is I have to go back !!!

So as I start this today I now have 7 more working days to complete, before I can chill and relax and play a bit more poker. So everyone take note if you want to improve your Bankroll  ;D

I will however have a four week exile from Poker, starting from the 11th Feb and this is where the cricket comes into it.  I will rubbing shoulders with the Barmy Army for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Test Matches in the West Indies and plan to bring all you Apaters who like a bit of cricket some specialist up close coverage of the tour.

In the meantime before I depart on the 11th I still have the start of the Online League and Walsall to look forward as I practice my comedy writing for you all. So, i"m looking forward to keeping in touch with everyone, along with a bit of cricket and reporting my poker exploits over the next few weeks.

Watch out for more.

Don

With the weather as it is today, I"m now wishing myself forward to the 12th February and looking forward to some high 20"s temperatures and sunshine  ;D

Another evening taken up with work so no poker and an early start at 3am to offer some support on my latest project, returned home at 5.30 this morning and decided sod it I need to squeeze a game of poker in before I get complete withdrawal symptoms!!

So fired up BSQ and decided to play a $5 sit and go, was very patient and waited for some premium hands, was fortunate to find myself dealt  ah :as: twice and got paid on both occasions.  Kept my patience and finally finished in 2nd to pick up $15.  Then decided I'd better get myself ready and head into work.

Looking forward to having a normal evening tonight and getting online for a bit of poker.

Well Robert in all honesty I don"t think there is to much wrong with the English game, we lost to a very good South African team, they"ve just beaten the Aussies at home  ;D and it"s always difficult to play on the sub continent, the IPL might actually improve the players as they will get more used to the slower wickets that they have in India.

As for the Skipper, I"m of the opinion that the right man is in charge now, Strauss is an excellent Captain and proved that against Pakistan, Pietersen is too much of show pony and just needs to play his game for England, the reason why he shouldn"t be Captain is the same reason why Warne was never considered for the Aussie job.

Not sure about no practice for the Windies, they will have just finshed the tour and played a few IPL games, the Pro"s don"t really need that much pratice, 80% natural talent in my opinion, Monty the one exception  :)

Right time for some poker tonight !!

My desire to play some poker on Friday night was scuppered as I kept falling asleep in front of my laptop after a couple of overnights during the week, I therefore ended up playing very loose in the tournament I registered for and went out quite quickly.  In hindsight I should have stayed clear and caught up with my sleep, but let my own keenness override the sensible decision.

The majority of the weekend was spent working which again curtailed my aspirations for poker at the weekend, returning home on Sunday just in time to watch the Merseyside derby and endure another draw at the hands of the blues, form needs to improve quickly for Liverpool to continue the challenge until the end of the season.

So at last I was settled in front of my laptop on Sunday ready to play some poker, I registered for two MTT on BSQ, $6k gtd f/o and $35k gtd rebuy.  The $6k also had lukybugur and Chipaccrual in the field although I didn't come across them on the tables.  I ended up struggling with dead hands and eventually went out around 250th.

The $35k rebuy was now my last chance and I plodded along slowly trying to avoid a rebuy whilst keeping my stack in contention, this was a struggle as time after time my cards gave me very little and restricted my ability to participate in pots.  AK ended up being my saviour and at the end of the first hour and add-on I was sitting on around 6500 chips.  The second hour was again a challenge hitting very little and keeping my stack around the same level, my stack had reduced and I was sitting with 1600 the blinds at 300/600 and I was sitting in the BB, I was dealt Q5os and just had to try my luck, maximising my return if I hit.  Fortunately, four spades hit the table and I lucked a flush, which took me up 7000 in chips, I got called a fish and laughed it off.

I then hit AK twice and pushed, doubling up both times and I was now sitting with 40k chips and in the money, I managed to steal a few blinds to keep myself going but was generally card dead, I then had AK dealt again and pushed as I was struggling to stay afloat, two callers and the pocket 7's hit a 7 on the flush and my challenge was over, an enjoyable 3 and a half hours for $75 profit as I finished in 70th.

Now in to my last week at work and looking forward to getting to Friday now.

One of my concerns with my trip was the chance I would have to access the internet and get online, one to keep in contact with friends as well as update my blog.  After a bit of investigation all the hotels are looking good for access, although not that cheap, but it should hopefully let me continue to participate in the Online League, possibly some satellites for the Nationals and the next Online championship which I was resigning myself to missing.

So now I will be shopping for a simple laptop to travel with so I"m not relying on my work one, will probably go for a tried and trusted Dell as I have never had a problem with one.

All good news at the end of the day, so if you see me online after Feb 11th and before Mar 12th, I"m probably playing in the sunshine  8)
