VEGAS QUESTIONS GUYS
« on: January 22, 2009, 23:23:52 PM »
I will be a "Vegas Virgin" when I go over in June curtesy of Ladbrokes so I would really appreciate any help you can give me on these topics.

The package that I have won includes satellites to the Main Event. If you qualify, and then get past day 1, you then get a 2nd weeks accomodation free of charge.

On that basis, we have decided to book flights that will be returning 14 days after we arrive so that even if I dont qualify and reach day 2, we can still have a 2nd week out there to do non-poker stuff....well.......some non-poker stuff !!

My problem therefore is that I need to be able to book a hotel, not neccesarilly Caesars Palace, where we are staying in week one, but somewhere where we would be able to cancel at short notice, without penalty, if I did reach day 2 of the M.E.

Can anyone help on this score .......or any other Vegas tips in general ?

I do not play cash games ever, so where are the best tournies in the $100-$200 buy-in range ??

Cheers guys.

+1 The Venetian comps are easily the best and the card room is very nice.  I also loved Binions, the 10pm and 2am ones in particular.  Dealers are brilliant, old school guys, no airs and graces.  Fantastic place.

Book any Vegas hotel direct, via their website / te;ephone, and you will be able to cancel with 48 / 72 hrs notice with no penalty.

During the WSOP their is no shortage of excellent structured tournies...

Binions will undoubtedly be running their festival in parallel to the WSOP again... the same events at 1/10th of the buy-in.

Likewise, the Venetian will probably be holding their deep-stack festival, this is predominently NLHE, but the buy-ins here will be $330 - $540.

Last year the Golden Nugget also ran a deep-stack festival, with buy-ins in the $150 - £500 range... more in competition with neighbours Binions.

If you"ve had a week at Ceasars, in the middle of the strip, and with your buy-in range of $100 - $200, I would suggest booking a room downtown for the second week... the Golden Nugget comes highly recommended, if a little dearer for downtown, and the Freemont looks really good value.

A taxi from centre strip area to Binions, will cost you about $20 (inc tip) e/w.

Push the boat out and pre-book a stretch limo for the Airport-Hotel transfer, around $70... no waiting in the taxi-line in 110degs and since the min booking is for 1 hr you can ask the driver to give you a sighhtseeing tour of the strip so you can get your bearings.

MSN Live Search maps (Aerial & Birds-Eye views) are superb for seeing where it"s all at... this link should open up with the Strip / Flamingo Rd intersection at the middle, Ceasars is top left... pan left along W Flamingo, across I-15 and you have the Rio. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCC&cp=36.114754~-115.173047&style=h&lvl=17&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=5085497&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1

Hope this helps, any more questions just ask... it"s likely that talking about it is as close as I"ll get this year, barring catching the poker god looking the other way and fluking into a satellite somewhere!

PS. If you like noodles, you have to try Noodles Asia in the Venetian... Probably the best [taste & good value] plate of food I"ve had in Vegas.

I should say that I"ve never really pushed the boat out on food when I"ve been there and comparing it with the Gold Coast breakfast buffet at $6.95 (all you can eat) isn"t setting the bar very high!!! :)

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Ahhhh it"s that time of year again...

I so wanna go to Vegas again this year but with the **** dollar it looks like only chance i"ve got is by luckboxing a few more wins online. I"m probably going to spend WAY too much money on Satellites again but oh well, worth a shot...

Enjoy yourself, Ceasars looks like a great place to stay. Don"t forget your smart shoes if you wanna go to any of the clubs though, I made that mistake last year and was faced with the prospect of "having" to gamble every night instead. lol.

when i played wsop,,the rio itself had some good tournies in the evenings,,in the same cardroom as main event,,,they were in the $100-$200 bracket and obviously attracted good numbers and good payout and on a down note,,good players lol,,,ask for details at the cage in main cardroom when u get there as i believe these tournies take place as the field gets smaller in main event and there are a few days when the payouts are much bigger due to large numbers looking for a game when they are knocked out,,if you leave it to late the numbers are much smaller as therefore are the payouts.
If u do make main event,, play ya game,,its just like any other live event,,,i was waiting too see some superhuman plays for a couple of hours but as i said its just like any other tournie lolol,,,,,the very best of luck !!!!!
