Hand at sky poker event
« on: January 31, 2009, 23:43:10 PM »
hey just looking for some feed back on the hand.

Today at the sky poker event sitting on around 42000 in small blind,  Blinds are 1000/2000 with a 200 ante. 8 handed table. average stack say 28000

Folded round to me I have  ac th in small. The big blind has been pretty active at the table showing down some poor hand and showing bluffs.

So I decide to limp hoping for the raise. Which the vilan kindly does raising it to 6000, right on que as I wanted. So i pretty quickly reraise to 16000.

He then re shoves, for another 16000. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

So I tank for a while he shoved in Phil Hellmuth syle a snap shove. I think he is capable of making a play here with  a rag ace but my hand is not great NOW.

So I decide to fold IT HURT. He showed  qh qc.

Blind where going up in like 10 min to 3000/1500, with 300 ante. Remain pretty card dead and blinded away make the cash in 20th place. not the worst didnt have many big hands.

So what your thoughs on this hand?? should I have called is intital raise and peeled off a flop, should I have called his shove,? my fold came from thinking i stilll have 27000 back so still can make a charge but i was prob priced in!!!

All feed back would be great.

I would say the fold is fine, you still have 13.5bb"s and you"ve just gone through the blinds. It is 16k to win 48.6k so you"re getting 3/1 though...

If you know the BB is gonna raise, I would just limp/call pre and peel a flop, then take it from there.

With your read on the guy you were just unlucky that he woke up with a premium hand, and he would have come over the top of any raise, and pretty much given you the same decision. So a very consevative fold is a cautious decision, but you still have plenty back. With your read though you must have been very tempted to shove?

yeah was reallly close at one point, had the chips in my hand. It guess it was prob the 3 outs I would have had wasnt enough, that made my choice.

I still feel that just calling his raise is fine. It controls the pot size and allows you to see how the hand develops with the flop.  I would only ever reraise in this situation if I am prepared to call an allin shove, otherwise as can happen far too often end up commiting a lot a chips NOT to see a flop, which it did in this case.  With a hand like A10 you are only a decent favorite against smaller aces.

Yes with a ten high flop it"s going to cost you a bunch of chips, conversely an ace high flop is going to make you a bunch, because someone this active isn"t going to leave an ace high flop alone without taking a shot at it.  Noble not sure what you are advocating here ? the reraise/fold, the reraise/call?  I ask because I have read a few of your posts recently and they are always thought provoking.

The original plan was sound and the fold was correct IMHO, the only thing that went wrong was that the guy had a genuine hand.

You had a good idea of what to expect from the hand against that player. You call from the small blind and he raises.... exactly what you hoped for.... you make your re-raise and are fully expecting a little bit of Hollywood before he folds his hand..... but nope he pushes all in quickly (the Phil Hellmuth style comment was bang on and the dealer was far from pleased as she new right away that she was going to have to tidy up the mess of chips to give you the count you'd be looking for).

Anyway I think you could have made the move with 72 and have expected the fold to your re-raise so when he pushed you new in your heart he had a hand and most of the pain you went through for the next few minutes was actually knowing that you had been unlucky to run into a hand that was about to cost fair proportion of your stack.

I could sense standing next to you that you were tempted to call and I'm sure the other guy could sense it as well. The thing was he really wanted you to call and you knew that it was a bad idea but just had to persuade yourself that you had to let the chips in the pot go.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I had the sense that you felt that calling was wrong but you were really tempted due to the chips invested and the size of the pot?

Well as I said before IMHO you made the right decision to fold and live to fight another pot.... WP
How can you call that.... you should have bet more...... I was all-in...... well you should have had more to bet.

Thanks derek, I didnt mind my play against that player. I prob would have like to see a flop, so maybe i should have called and folded if nothing happened for me. I nearly did call nearly but think i made the right fold!

i"m trying to point out guys position, oop sb v bb versus agg opponent who is hard to read,i could wait for better spots in position...

i see to many get caught up in blind confrontations and get burnt and yet if i ever see them again they still over play draw hands oop ... Don't bet your whole tournament on this small edge if you feel your one of the better players at the table. If you feel your overall edge is low [better players than yourself at table]then fine you have to push these type of thin edges...

i agree with the limp call raise against an aggressive villain by the way  :)
