Okay, back from my first GUKPT event last night. It was a strange tournament, that was being run side by side the main event, and it felt a bit like playing in the championship rather than the premiership, even though there were 132 runners our table was never full, we had a player being blinded away and always had at least one seat empty and often two.
It was a veritable whos who of Poker in the casino, with the big names taking part in the main event or raping the cash tables, it was nice to be in such illustrious company, even though they weren"t playing in the £100 event, having said that we did have a GUKPT final tablist on our table.
I had a very ordinary tournament, getting very few starting hands, but still managed to get to the first break (2 hours in) with average chip stack, making a couple of big lay downs, it transpired one was a good one, but the other I was well ahead and would have doubled up! Doh!
Any way after the break the antes kicked in and the blinds obviously increased, after another 45 mins I found myself down to about 10 x bb, having not picked up a single hand.
I looked down at AQo in early position, and raised to 1600 (bb 400) had another EP caller, and the bb completed for a further 1200. Flop K J 8 with two diamonds, BB checked I bet 2000 (leaving me about 1500 behind) mistake number one, obviously I shoud have pushed here. First EP caller folded and the BB called, turn was 9 hearts, BB checked and I pushed in my remaining chips, BB obviously called  and turned over 6 9 diamonds. Diamond didn"t hit but neither did A, Q or 10 and I was out, about 60th.
My first question is calling with 6 9 diamonds OOP (she was above average stack) with a raise and a call in front?
Should I have just pushed preflop? Could I have got away from it on the flop?
So will I play another one of these, I think yes, there were people from all over the country in the tournament, and the standard was pretty good, if a lot more aggressive than your average APAT event. Wish I was playing the main event though, that looked great fun!

With the antes in play here, its shove time. If you open raise a third of your stack, you are pot committed so just stick them in.

Anyway, its my turn tonight. i"ll let you know how I get on.

Mike, did it start on time??

played in main event on day 1b on friday managed to last till 11.30pm when my 88 was outflopped by AK - really enjoyed my first big tourney and thought the standard of play was pretty good though didn"t feel too out of my depth just no big hands at all.

kenny Burke who finished 4th I think was wasted on Friday night and bullied his table dishing out some verbals as well - he managed some massive bluffs and it was pretty amazing considering the size of the tourney!

Yeah I got 4th in that. Should have had the trophy but after a good read when chippo got it all in against the guy 2nd in chips and my 77 v his 55 all-in preflop (good read) but he flops the set and I go out next hand having been crippled. Then he wins half an hour later. pffft!! :"(
