WSOP - $1,500 event of three $500 satellites?
« on: June 17, 2009, 16:01:03 PM »
Am off to Vegas on the 27th June and had my heart set on playing event 54 (for $1,500) on the 29th. Then on Friday in the Guardian, Vicky Coren said that the $1,500 events were a bit mad, you could be out in an hour and would be better off playing three $500 sats for the main event where the structure was quite good. But in the $1,500 events the levels are 60 minutes while in the sats they go up every 30 minutes. Can the $1,500 events be that bad? Would playing three $500 sats give more of the "WSOP experience" if you know what I mean?

If I had $1500 to spend in that situation I would enter one of the Limit WSOP $1500 events  -  you won"t be out in an hour if you did that.

You are probably better of playing a sat rather than one of the $1500 -

Read some of the reports for the $1500 - players drop at an average of one every 30/40 seconds!!!!!

Listen to john and play one of the limit tpurnies atleast you will get some value from your tourney bucks!!

even with 4500 chips starting stack this year, these events are complete donk shoots and probably dont give the greatest WSOP experience
I"d try and qualify for a bigger WSOP event or do as Dean says and play the deepstacks. Much better value for money

Play the $1500 ... I think Vicky was just giving fair warning of what to expect ...

My mate is over playing Event 34 ($2000 NL) ... 2000 runners ... 240 left at the end of day 1 ... but going by the match report nothing particuarly crazy ... 1 hour levels. First day down to 240 ... 216 paid ... he is still in play ...pretty short stacked.

$500 sat"s are more likely to be crapshoots ... 1 seat per 20 runners.

Limit ... oh wow ... have you played it ... SO slow ...

Good Luck.

I am off on Sunday and have been backed by my good friends at the BCPC to the tune of 4-£500 so I will probably play one of those deepstack events at Caesars or the Venetian as I feel they suit my style of play better.
For a buy-in of that magnitude, I want a LOT of play for my wad !

hey joker161. Im guessing this is a NLH event. go to Pokertournmentformula.com and check out the skill factor of this event. personally from reading synders book i would avoid this, and also watching Negreanus blogs.

he says he "avoids most NLH events like the plague" during the wsop (apart from the main event) apparantly the fields are quite big and structure quite fast.

Thanks for all the advice. Keep it coming. Conflicting views so still undecided. I think I will play Ceasars/Venitian as well as something at the Rio.

I"ve played the $1500 NL event and enjoyed every minute of it (finished c400/2800 after about 13 hours)

Having said that if you are after good poker experience (structure, card room, TD"s, etc) then I would say play at Ceasars. (it"s better but just not the WSOP!)

I would agree as well . You also have to ask urself what ypou are comfortable playing , if you feel they are donkshoots then you adjust your game plan accordingly and play for value . Whatever the outcome at least you are to have gone in with the best hand .. If not , cash games are really sweet , you could even come back with 4x the amount you went over with .. Good luck in your quest...

Take 2 friends, have 3 seats in the same $500 trny, chipdump, mirrors under table, wink/blink and get a seat to ME.

Obviously jesting, gl with your eventual choice and keep us posted :)

Think i would prob opt for the $1500.
