Vicky Coren"s articles have an agenda of despising modern poker, you can safely ignore most of it. I can"t say what Vegas tournaments are value though.

Anyone got any last minute advice? I"m off on Saturday. I"m tending towards the $500 sats.

i"d play a 1500 event tbh mate.

at least that way you get a true WSOP experience as opposed to 500 dollar sats full of high roller donks that couldnt care less if they bingo you out.

hey viper. do you really think the $1500 is gonna be any different from the sats...?  its still gonna be full of people who have never played poker before.

you wont experiance playing a top pro like Ivey, Hansen or Negreanu....they have said that they Avoid these NLH events like the Plague.....not enough utilty to be able to play Smallball...i could be wrong about the reasons why they dont like playing them, but that is my best guess. have you ever wondered why ivey has never got a NHL braclet?and he is probably the best player in the world..

Plenty of the big names play the $1500 NLHE events

The reason you"re not very likely to sit on a table as them is because of the number of entrants

hence, another reason

If I had $1500 to spend in that situation I would enter one of the Limit WSOP $1500 events  -  you won"t be out in an hour if you did that.

As you"re also more likely to get to play against a big name

Surely the whole point is to win some $$$. Not just sit at a poker table with some one you once saw on t.v.
Play wich ever game you think will give you the best chance of cashing!

fair enough, good point...but you could probably gain experiance and learn about your own style, by playing against people who have made millions in the game, and people who are better than you.

good luck what ever you choose joker..

surely part of taking a trip to Vegas during WSOP is for the experience and thrill of playing for a bracelet?!  If you want to invest in easier tourneys, why go all the way to Vegas - there"s plenty of easy money in UK and Europe.

I agree with Steve, if you are going to Vegas during WSOP, then surely the aim is to play one of the Bracelet events. If you have a few quid to spend on tourneys then play in the GUKPT or the monthly DTD events.

Definitely this.

Get backed a little if you can, I"m playing event 54 and it"s gonna cost me a lot less than the buy in. Pressure off, variance down etc. Just for the chance of saying you"ve done, maybe cashing in it, and given the standard of some of the play in the latter stages (going by unreliable updates), who"s to say you won"t make it very deep.

If you"re there for the money and you back your poker skill, find the deepstacks around.

If you"re there for the experience, play the WSOP.

I disagree with Steve  ;)

From my experience the standard of play is much lower in Vegas and it is a good place to build your bankroll.

I would still opt for the $1500 event though.

This is true, but you have to pay for flights and hotels - if you"re only playing to win money you can play locally or play online.
