When I read about this on the Blonde forum a few weeks ago, my initials thoughts (which still stand) are that online poker has just dealt itself a massive blow. At a time when the online poker market is booming, there are so many people who question it"s integrity (recent UB scandal etc), and by effectively banning winning, this is potentially suicidal for what could and should be a highly lucrative market.

I understand the principal of needing to remain attractive to weaker players, BUT if a new player comes along and is considering starting playing online, but hears that if he wins he will be banned, I wonder whether he will bother.

Also, surely to have a pool of losing players, simple maths says you have to have the flipside of the equation, ie winning players.

Ridiculous situation.

Why are iPoker bothered? Surely it is more a concern for sites with a lots of losers. I dont get it tbh. There must be a sound financial reason for this, just cant find it? ???

Because if the big sites continue to have their high rakers poached then they won"t invest as much in marketing which will lead to a fall in the number of new players coming through and eventually lead to the death of ipoker (not neccessarily a bad thing imo)

Rob i-poker make there income from what is deposited,if winning players withdraw there monies they[ipoker] can only cover it with the rake of the losing players..They need losing players to be making regular deposits [preferably large ones]
The winning players just pass the losing players money between themselves..

But if they operated more intelligently, and were more efficient and their marketing more effective, they would make enough money from the rake.

Winning players don"t just pass the money between themselves.  They also pay a lot of rake to the site.  Obviously not enough to cover iPoker"s costs though.

from a losing player prospective, if said losing player saw or knew that a certain site was full of so called sharks, they"d steer well clear, and deposit elsewhere at less shark infested waters.

so it makes commercial sense at least that they continue to appeal to "losing / 1st timers" without the threat or reputation that the site is full of or an adversly high % of winning players.

If I understand it correctly?   ???

I"m still not getting this. For every loser there is a winner. For every dollar lost, someone wins a dollar. It is all perfectly balanced. For every dollar that changes hands, the site takes rake.

Simplez? No?

Apparently, some of the players who"ve been singled out as "sharks" are in fact losing players.

iPoker genius!!

I thought that as the two largest ipoker skins own playtech, that if you close the smaller skins down, the winning players & the rake they generate will move to one of those two skins.
