APAT - Swansea (whose going?)
« on: March 05, 2010, 17:54:30 PM »
Hi everyone,

Just wondered who from our Solent club will be attending. This will be my first live APAT event so looking forward to meeting up with you guys.

If anyone is struggling for transport, let me know. I will be driving up from the Fareham area but would be happy to divert the odd mile or two to pick any fellow Solent"ers up if it helps#

# NB. There is still a slight chance I won"t make Swansea, but should know for certain in a few days.  ;)

Finally I echo John"s comments (sign up thread) regarding the League on Sundays... sign up folks, let"s hope I can play more this season too as we had a cracking start last season.

Best regards,

Bart

I"m all set and ready for Swansea, only my second live event for APAT.  Also signed in to the Sunday game too, should be fun.

Should we wear name badges on the day?  ;D

I"m going :)

Haven"t sorted out a hotel yet, which should make things interesting!

I was intending on driving up myself from Southampton - would you prefer a car share and someone contributing petrol money Bart?!

Does depend on what hotel I find though - any suggestions?!

Hi all,

Happy to drive as would be doing it anyway and more than happy to pick people up if it helps. Would be great to get to know a couple of you guys/girls better anyway so yeah sounds good Dave. Drop me a PM nearer the time with your postcode/address or pick up point and a mobile number would be handy. I"ll provide you with mine just in case too.

I"ve got room to take 3 in the car, 4 if you"re happy being cosy in the back ;) just let me know folks.

btw apparantely it"s Wales 6 nations match at Cardiff & also a brass band convention (wtf?) in Swansea, so anyone driving allow a little extra time.
Google seems to suggest 3&1/2 hours (seems excessive?), but suggest allowing 4hrs as can always sup the bar whilst waiting for things to start. Need a bit of time to pick hotel key up too so that we don"t disturb people in the early hours (ever hopeful of actually staying in the tourney that long  ;D ) and maybe a bacon sarney on the way up   :)

I"m guessing we sign up to Aspers on the day with photo ID yeah? Do I need to do anything before the day?

I"ve managed to get into the Glen... something or other, Leigh (showdown, put me onto it), I think the chappie mentioned that he still has a couple of rooms spare on the phone the other night. Circa 1.5 miles down the road, but walkable/cheap taxi trip away and likely to be much quieter than the (already full) premier inn.

Re PLO:
Is that the specialist tourney? If so, I think I read somewhere that it was designed for those from the m/e that bust out on the saturday so I"m guessing it"s available to reg on the Sat/Sun.

Regards,

Bart

Hi Bart

I"ll be travelling from Portsmouth and meeting Dave Green at Southampton Airport, though we were thinking of going by train - £59.60 return. Leaves airport 9:22, arrives 12:43 or leaves 10:22, arrives 13:43.

Booked in Premier Travel Inn City Centre - £70/night for twin room incl breakfast (not that we"ll see that - maybe on the way to bed).

Should be fine to join the casino on the day - haven"t come across any problem doing that elsewhere. Haven"t checked but you can prob join online before if you wish.

I"ve got a room at the Matador Guest House - about a mile away from Aspers. £59 for the night including brekkie and free Wifi for that late night grinding through latehotelrooms.com.

The rooms are themed (?!) - at least I"ll know what it feels like to be a cheap hooker. Think I"ll be in an African themed room or a Roman themed room  ???

PLO for those busting out on the Sat? Guess I"ll be playing that then!

So yes, in short Bart - lift share is good - you have any plans for the Sunday or just take it as it comes? Can meet you somewhere easy for the M3 if preferred - though I live just off the M271 so not too far away from it anyway.

lol @ themed room.  (Beer)+(lack of sleep)+(themed room) = surreal waking up in the morning/afternoon.  ;D

Thanks for the info John, will check out their website. £60 train is a little outside my budget and nowhere near line myself, so used to driving.

Need to check the logistics, but I could prob pick you two up as well if you want to save yourself a few quid.
I"m actually in Denmead, but was going to head down to the M27 for M3/A34/M4 etc so could probably divert to portsmouth first or meet you somewhere.
Brief diverts to the 271 & Eastleigh airport should also be fine.

No plans yet for Sunday, other than assuming I"ll prob have a "free day"  ::) Can be flexible. Would obviously continue to rail anyone still left in and would be good to watch for a while anyway even if we all busted, or find a sng (can"t play PLO)/snooker or something, but if all of us have busted and consensus is wanting to go home, happy to leave early.

Just let me know if your interested, totally understand if you prefer to make your own way. Not a problem.

Ok, so currently got:

Me (Driving) > staying at Glevdon
+ Leigh E. > also at the Glevdon
+ Dave H. > staying at Matador/Mirador?

John/Dave G. Are you going to make your own way? I"m thinking 5 in the car might not be too comfortable for the poor sod in the middle at the back, but happy to accomodate as long as you & the others don"t mind. Let me know a.s.a.p so I can warn the others to keep baggage to a minimum. As long as Dave H. doesn"t bring along 48" plasma screens to go with his lappy for the late night grinding session we should be ok  ;D

If anyone travelling with me can pm me a pickup postcode & mobile number over the weekend sometime, I can then work out the quickest way of picking you all up and let you know if delayed on the day for any reason.

Many thanks. Really looking forward to this, should be awesome  :)

Bart, you have mail :)

And my lappy is a baby, only 15" - I bought it just before I went on a heater  >:(

Guys, suggest you have an alternative travel arrangment in hand.

I will probably be pulling out of Swansea due to the attitude of several (non Solent) members.

Will confirm for definate in the next day or two.

Well, that was standard. Prize to anyone who can find someone who"s run worse in APAT Hold Em tournaments than me! In 3 of the last 4 tournies I"ve lost huge pots for chiplead (QQ v an overcalled AK for 4x average chips, JJ v J7s all in pre last hand of day 1 for twice as many chips as 2nd place has and now the below). Add losing with AA v J8 in another, QJT8 v K772 on a 976 4 way raised pot for WCOAP Omaha chip lead with 15 left.

Run into two flopped sets in the space of 4 hands, misplay one of my own hands and lost 4.2k I shouldn"t have lost. Drop down to 3,800 but run it up to around 21k and one of the chipleaders by level 5. Got a very LAG image (surprise surpise).

Am at around 19k at blinds 150/300/25. Raise to 825 UTG+1 with  8d 8h. MP makes it 2000. I call.

Flop  ks 8s 7c

I bet 1800, get what I want when MP moves in for over 10k more. Naturally I snap call. MP has  :as: ac

Turn  :3s:

River  js

Standard. Do feel free to ignore this post as it"s just me venting!
