Match report for Liverpool team 14/3/2010

Match Day 14th march 2010

We arrived at the felt with 16 runners and settled in for a night of attrition. The other teams were going to take a pop at the league leaders and we were on our guard. Shogun left the fray early with KKK versus KKK but the opponent's higher kicker won the day, bad luck at the start and a real cooler.

No jibes either about the fact that your captain was beaten by two team members who couldn"t make it but were regged.  ;D

The night wore on and we had some players nicely placed for an assault on the final third of the game. The middle third of the game is where most of the damage was done. This is the period around the 100/200 blinds and, as in most tournaments of this type, there were a few players on less than 10bb and they feel the need to move on or get out by aggressive all ins. We lost 7 players in this period before the game settled down once more as we hit the final third.

We had 3 players left in at this stage, all playing good solid poker. 30 out we lost Kevin and Mick in quick succession 30th & 29th respectively, leaving Andy K our only representative.

Andy K then moved up a gear with some nicely timed (and some luckily timed) moves on the table. Then we reached the Final table.

The final table was a good game to watch with many railers enjoying the battle. Manchester seemed to have the 3 points wrapped up and we were playing for a point at this stage. The dynamics of the table seemed to suggest that a point would keep us at the top of the table.

Andy didn't disappoint, moving up through the field to emerge heads up, finishing a credible 2nd. Well played Andy and much appreciated, it was like getting an extra time goal to remain top of the league.

Thank you to all who turned up to represent the team, it is always going to be a large slice of luck to weather that middle third of the game when low stacks are pushing and you have decisions to make and getting them in good is sometimes not enough.

As it turned out we are still top by 1 point from Manchester, I would like to keep it that way. Please regroup for the next battle on 28th March 2010
