Hotels are going to be what you can find them for, modern cheap hotels i.e. holiday inn, premier inn etc are likely to be the most basic and clean, a lot of the cheaper hotels are older and touristy, Victoria has a plethora of cheaper ones, under £10 in a black cab.

Personally I"d only take black cabs when in town, even if I drove into town I would look to leave the car at the hotel (if available) and use public transport to the venue, the Vic car park is quite small, parking locally is expensive, meters are about £9 an hour. Oh yeah don"t forget, if you drive in to town and arrive before 6pm on Friday or leave after 7am on Monday you have Ken"s legacy to satisfy, we have the congestion charging zone, you will have to pay £8 for the priviledge. don"t pay and it"s £70 to start and it gets even more expensive after that!!!

Check out the Transport for London website for details of the charging zones. A bit of shopping in Oxford st is car free only buses and taxis allowed.

Ha! welcome to our life. Have fun.

Don"t know how much it would cost for a single room but have booked a room for 4 at the Marriott in kilburn, not far away from the casino by tube for 135.00 a night ( buy 2 and get the 3rd free ) so me and the family are having a weekend away for 270.00 , does not include breakfast but what the hell, I get to play poker and they get to see the sights LOL ;D also got return tickets from wrexham for 115.00 for the four of us, well pleased ;D ;D

Sounds like you"ve all got a great weekend planned then.  See you at The Vic.

Or to put it another way, London public transport has got a bigger subsidy than anywhere else in the country and probably anywhere in the world, so with buses and tubes from early to late and a Night Bus service better than most towns day services - you probably can do without a car (and there is always the black cab for a 4am stumble out of the casino when you can"t walk to and from bus stops)

I was thinking about staying at a friends in Hatfield and thinking about the train and tube to get there and back...am not really up on London transport and all at the mo, anyone sugest whether this sounds feasible at all or wud it be better to book myself somewhere in London?

Cheers guys and looking forward to seeing you all there

You would have to research the trains to Hatfield from London that run late on Saturday/early Sunday purely because if you make it deep you"ll have to get back.

Tubes after midnight aren"t good.

The Vic car park is just inside the congestion zone, if you plan to go ther before 6pm on a weekday.......but if you arrive in the afternoon on any day, you shouldn"t have a problem parking (free)....just a tip for the car valet.

I stayed there for the Black Belt Live tournament

I got £90 a night for a double with Breakfast included - but it might be "tricky" to get that kind of deal again

You can park it yourself in the Vic"s car park (which opens at 1pm usually IIRC) but be prepared to leave your keys and for it to me moved from where you left it as the car valets will jockey it around to fit everyone in.

Probably not a good idea to leave any valuables in the car....not that I"m implying anything...just saying is all.
