« on: July 20, 2010, 16:06:20 PM »
Bit of a n00bish question but I"m clueless here......

Is it possible to be eliminated from a tourney, having lost a colouring up chip race?

House Rules vary but in the unlikely event that this did happen...

TDA Rule 16...says "No"

Quote

16.   Chip Race
When it is time to color-up chips, they will be raced off with a maximum of one chip going to any player. The chip race will always start in the No.1 seat. A player cannot be raced out of a tournament: a player who loses his or her remaining chip(s) in a chip race will be given one chip of the smallest denomination still in play. Players are encouraged to witness the chip race.

...but I had to look it up.  :P

No.

I didn"t need to look it up.

thanks guys

was running a few tourneys at school and the stupid little feckers kept blinding themselves down to <1BB and at risk in the colour up

I actually gave one chip to players allin in a colour up before the chip race started but then had 1 less prize for the chip race

was this correct?

I think there are bigger issues at hand than whether shortstacks could be eliminated during a chip race!!

Is poker on the curriculum now???   ;D

Offhand, I"d say you were wrong...I"d add an additional single chip for that player (assuming they didn"t win the chip race).

Overall, it won"t make a big difference to the remaining players.

Is this in the staffroom or classroom Rob?

(I assume you could refer to colleagues as stupid little feckers as well as the pupils  :D)

It was "enterprise and business week" at school.

I ran poker tournaments as well as a few "other" things as well. The aim was to teach bankroll management and come up with a business plan for the "virtual" money they had at their disposal

Turning them into hard core gamblers was an added bonus

We did a whole session on different "types" of gambler and how to recognise the differences between social, compulsive, pathological etc..

It was a valuable lesson for all, myself included!!
