The countdown is on the screens 40 mins to go until the start.

For those of you following the updates a little game for you;

Considering the LAG approach by many in Vienna, how long do you think it will be until the first person and UK person goes out;

My guess is; 17 mins

Then how long until the first UK person goes out; 1hr 50 mins

Guess away; winner gets some pride  ;D

I went for a wander around Old Town today and visited a few of the churches, I took some pictures along the way to help you visualise the place.

I do recommend a visit here, the daytime is lovely, and apparently the night life is lively.

So on walking about 10 mins from the casino/hotel, you come to the entrance of the old town...

Then walking along the streets all the cafes have outside furniture for you to enjoy the atmosphere and there is a strong medieval theme, with many people dressed up in costume.

So I keep walking and start heading up towards the top of Tallinn and  a first slice of imposing Russian architecture in the form of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is stunning inside (no pics allowed sorry)...

I then went across the road to the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin which had a wonderful altar...

and an ornate pipe organ as well, which was being played at the time. It gave the church a great atmosphere.

I then paid 50 Kroon to get a guided tour up the tower. It is the highest point in Tallinn Old Town. It was about 140 steps up a small winding staircase and I was tired when i got to the top, but the view was worth it.

In the picture below, the Russian Othordox church is on the left and the Estonian Parliament is the pink building with the tower on the right. The Estonian flag is raised everyday at 6am on the tower and lowered at midnight.

On the other side is a view of Tallinn coast and the port.

All the houses in the picture where left in a state of disrepair during the Soviet occupation and the Estonians have spent time and money fixing them up.

Still many of the walls of the old medieval town exist and you can walk along some of them (I will be doing this tomorrow)

This picture may give you a little clue as to what I will be uploading later  ;) ..

Hope you enjoyed the tour.

Any requests for info I will gladly attempt to fulfil.

More on Estonia later.

Being a travel fanatic (even if I can"t indulge myself as often as I would like), I"d like to know the details & experience of your journey to Tallinn.

Well firstly I must try and get a go at the archery tomorrow morning!

The experience of the journey?

Well firstly Tallinn is not that accessible. Although there is a direct flight from the UK on a Thursday you can"t get back til the Tuesday. We therefore connected via Helsinki, others connected by Prague

Although there are some UK tourists here this all means that Tallinn retains an old world charm. Compared to Riga, which I went to on a stag three years ago, its far less UK-centric and less commercial.Apart from the places the lads go to I would imagine!

The journey London-Helsinki was 3 hours or so, via FinnAir. Very good

The hop from Helsinki to Tallinn was 20 minutes on a turboprop. We both said that we"d investigate doing the 45 minute fast ferry when going back on Monday. In this summer weather, looking down on groupings of Islands just in the Gulf to the south of Finland that looked a very appealing travel option. Something far better about looking out at sea rather than above the clouds!

As it was the hop across was fine, and this venue is 15 minutes from the airport

Estonia"s currency is the Kroon, which is replaced by the Euro on 1/1/11. So far prices don"t seem too bad. A bit more inflated than at home, but bearable.

Play got away on time, no exits yet

Mostly a youngish crowd, overwhelmingly blonde/fair.

One of the gallant Brit Nine is Chen Tam "Sunseekers" from Nottingham, here with his partner

He raises to 150 in level 1 in the hi-jack

Ivan Piskunov flat calls on the button. Impeccable English and he announces "I have this round thing". The button I assume

flop  ac ah 4c

Chen leads for 150

Ivan makes it 600

Chen makes it 1500

With a quizzical smile Ivan says "So my four is no good then?" and folds

Chen tells him "maybe, I was just finding out if you really did have the Ace"

Near the end of the first level and still no exits. My predictive powers are waning.

Beautiful atmosphere though, friendly and courteous. Like Walsall on a Saturday night.
