Ok then, time for a report!!
As you all know, i came a mighty 2nd bottom in the individual points tally for the team event!
Not sure how to feel or where to start really!! I made my appologies to my team mates at the event, still feel like i let them down a bit, if i had got some more points we could have been in contention so i suppose we will never know.
After taking some time to think about things these are my thoughts.
STT 1
Got my stack up to about 5k early doors, without showing a hand, felt like i was really playing well and was picking my spots really well. Made a call with 88 when the blinds were 50/100, i raised to 500 and a member of team scotland shoved for about 2k more. I made the call, as i think we might be flipping, but now, after looking back and talking it through with Rudders, I now think/know that this should have been an easy fold, he hadnt played a hand (literally) thus far and i can afford to chuck away the 500 and go back to picking up pots after that as i had been. Then was too busy talking to realise a member of team Canada had raised, i shove my 82o and she makes the call with 1010. Woops!!
Omaha -
Played well here! Really enjoyed it, got to 4 handed and realised that my opponents deffo had a skill edge, so i took the route of sheer aggression to get to 2 handed, where i went down, but not complaining with 2nd place!
HU
Got Brendan Byrne here, tough tought tough game!
Started off really well, and hitting a FH against his 2 pair gave me a decent chip lead, unfortunately, everytime i thought i had a decent spot to make a bluff at, Brendan picked up a hand. The prime example being me having to say "Jack high" and seeing brendan flip his paired Ace!
Got it in with A10ss against 77 and got no help so that was that really, felt like i played it really well, it just wasnt gonna happen!
Day 2
STT
Make raise pre with QQ after Ger had limped, get the call, flop comes x67, he checks, i bet, he raises a bit, so i call, turn is 7, check check, river 9, Ger bets, i fold showing my QQ and he flips 67! MBN :p
Then get KK on bb, its limped by about 5 people i think, make a raise, get a few callers, flop is 6 2 3, American bets 500, i shove 2.5k, Eck shoves over top, Eck has 66 and thats me done AGAIN lol.
MTT
Horrible table with Young Rudders and Brendan Byrne to my direct left. Lovely.
Won a bit, lost a bit (including a horrid bet on the river into Rudders jr which just made no sense) Then locked up for about 40 mins.
Got AQ, raised pre, got 2 callers, flop comes xx9, Canadian bets, i raise him for most of my stack, he shoves, i have to call, he flips K9o and i miss. Out again.
I dont particularly like his play here, at all, but suppose he has called pre with that hand, so he had to go with it once he had hit top pair. Out again!
Overall, i feel like i have played really well, and at least it gave me plenty of time to talk to people like Rudders Snr, Brendan and Paul McGuiness about things, all of who were brilliant and di a good job of reassuring me that they thought i had played well, cheers boys, it was really appreciated.
Being able to talk to players like that has given me alot of things that i want to use going forward and will hopefully help me to step up to the next level.
Well dones go to Paul McGuiness for being a double world champ, absolutely chuffed to bits for you mate, couldnt be more deserved for a cracking human being!
Also to Phil TC for his bronze in the 6max, was gutted you diddnt get your gold mate, but really well done on a corking performance!!!
Oh and Wales, as soon as we got out of it, was desperate to see you win, your all top lads and it was very well deserved for a cracking performance.
Cheers to everyone who got me so drunk i was falling asleep in my chair at DTD, appreciate all the generosity, and i will be buying people drinks when i next see you all!
Finally thanks to James Barber for letting me and the Stockton Rock stay at his flat, had a cracking time, and he looked after us well. Top man, love ya loads.
I am (after announcing my retirement on friday) going to the local Gala tonight to give it all another go! Only question is, do i wear my England top while i am there!?
This really all came together to remind me why i love playing APAT events, you are all, without exception, absolute stars, and i cant wait for my next taste of it, which will probably be Vegas! Bring it on.
