Jack is basically retired anyway. Wasn"t Stu like his student. Obviously gutted that Stu can"t make it but he would be there if it was possible. He will be expected to continue to try of course lol. As for somebody stepping up for Stu, people should be careful, isn"t Cardiff the home of Dan Owston and friends #justsayin

Well, along time since my last post.

Brief up date!! We came third in the Home Internationals, all credit to Paulie, James and Dann. They were all superb and fantastic team mates to have, would do it all again with them in a heartbeat, another international medal locked up and thats the full set now, will  have to rethink the INternational retirement i had decided i was going to put myself into after the first day!!

Inother news, I somehow managed to get second place in last nights Welsh online main event! Lovely silver medal and 330 euros to go with it, but am still slightly disappointed. Got it in twice good v Damo headsup, and at one point was 1 card away from picking up the win, but he ended up spiking the river. I really wanted to go to the Champion  of Champions event, but never mind will have a crack at another one!!!

I am also currrently getting staked by Steve Rodderick in $2.50 180 man tournaments on Poker Stars.

After a few days of playing and a starting bankroll of 44250 we are currently sat at $300, so a nice steady start, and i feel like I already have a pretty good grasp of the tactics needed in these, so am hopeful of getting us some decent money in by the end of the stake!

So, as you may have realised, I like to enjoy myself!! This usually involves lots of beer and/or lots of food, and with Christmas just a few weeks away I am very worried.

It has dawned on me that I have really piled the weight on over the last 6 months. This is probably due in part to my stopping smoking (over a year without touching one, TYVM) and general inactivity on my part.

It is easy to blame this on my dodgy knees, which Tbf ARE dodgy, but it is something that I use as an excuse far too often nowadays so that I can just sit on my backside!

I used to play football every week, and whilst I do still play cricket, standing at slip and bowling a few overs of leg spin is hardly pushing any boundaries!!

SO! I have decided that I need a challenge.

I am going to lose 4 stones in weight in a certain amount of time (any realistic suggestions welcome, I honestly have no clue how ling would be a challenge?) And I am going to complete a half marathon AND marathon next year, to raise money for Cerebral Palsy charities.

I was thinking about a penalty system where I pay £10 per lb I am away from reaching my target or something similar, and if others want to sponsor me too that would be awesome??

CP is a matter close to my heart, as my 4 year old nephew suffers from it. He was born 12 weeks premature and while he is able to crawl about happily, has never been able to walk due to problems with his legs.

I am sure I have bored you all to bits about him in the past, but he really is my hero, and I know that he would love nothing more than to take one step, never mind run, so for me to be as lazy as I have become is just ridiculous.

So! I will keep this updated once I start with how the weight loss is going and also how my running progresses.

GL fat lad!!

Good luck with this mate, great cause!

It took me 6 months to lose 2 stone in the run up to the wedding

For me :

I found it VERY tough, gym 4 times a week upto 4 hours at a time.. would recommend finding a gym partner with similar goals if possible to motivate on those days when you lose the will.

A healthy weight loss is supposedly 2 pounds a week.. so using maths that would be around 6-8 months. However it"s never that easy. You"ll lose a lot early days and then your body will adjust and it gets harder and harder to lose. I would say 4 stone possibly in 12 months but it"s a big ask mate. I know I couldn"t do it.

After a while, they"ll be weeks when you put weight on, never give up, its just your body adjusting.

Oh.. use decent scales as well, I used the old Wii fit which was spot on. Always weigh yourself at the same time every day, first thing probably the best.

Don"t fad diet.. losing weight is simple really. Burn more calories than you eat. Which means exercise and hard work.

I know you very well obv Stu and I know if you put your mind to it you can achieve this no problems. Have every faith mate and will support you in every way, if that means drinking your share of the beer I"m willing to put myself on the line  ;)

Good luck mate. Much love x

Cheers Phil, all tip advice :) cutting out beer is my main thing once again I feel. Last time I lost weight (2 stones) I stopped the beer and moved on to vodka diet coke, which helped, so will probably try that again.

If you ever fancy coming for a run then let me know, a man with your half-marathon experience could teach me a lot :)

Good luck with this Stu - awesome personal challenge, and even better when it benefits such a good cause.

Phil mentions the early weight losses - these really are easy if you just make one simple (??) adjustment.... stop drinking alcohol, and the weight will fall off in the early days.  It"s once your body rebaselines that the next phases are really tough.

I lost 7 stone in 7 months.

Now obviously you"re not the man I am but I"m sure you could manage a stone a month - if you want it to be challenging :)

The tenets of my regime were:

2000 kcals/day,

weigh everything & record calorie intake - no cheating,

walk 4 miles per day as fast as possible (I"d prolly be running now though :) ) trying to beat my best time.

Jaxie will sponsor you 50p/lb.

Hell of a target you"ve set yourself there Stu - but it"s for a really good cause and with that motivation I bet you can do it.

I can"t offer any weight loss tips (obviously!).  In fact I even put weight on when I trained for my first GNR.  Lots of running meant I was eating like a horse - more so than normal. ;)  But I"ve had my share of knee issues too, so any help/advice you need with the running, just ask!  I"ve got a 12 week half marathon training plan that works for me - but everyone"s different.  You can give it a try, and adapt it as you go.  Let me know if you want it.

One thing I would say is get a good pair of running shoes asap.  Go for gait analysis to a specialist running shop if you can.  Up and Running in Darlington sorted me out, and was the best investment I made.  Nasty knee and shin pain went away when I got the right shoes.  They videoed my running and noted I over-pronated when running so needed stability support.  Made a big difference.

Good luck buddy!
