Omaha and Stud live games?
« on: November 14, 2007, 17:25:21 PM »
This is something for the future, but might the APAT head cheeses consider adding one or two tournaments to the live tour, either regionally or nationally to include different variations of poker?  Including Omaha and Stud games would add some variety to the tour as well as giving the season champion claims of being the best amateur poker player rather than just hold "em player.  I"m also better at these games and I"d have a better chance of making it to the buffet break.  Not sure if the demand is there, but maybe something worth considering?

Splendid.  Not ranking events though.

It might be an idea to see what the demand for these are first.

If they get sold out in minutes then I think it would seem likely that they could work as ranking events.

But if there"s a slow uptake of seats then I think it would probably be better to leave it as similar to how it is now.

i"d definitely vote for plo8 but what about a horse tourney? seems to be the 2nd most desirable one to win at the wsop...could be the same for the apitapat ;D

It may also be worth trying having one of the tournaments each month set aside for a poker variation game.  So 3 events of holdem and one another.

Not sure what you mean here...in tourneys, the betting limits (Limit/Pot/NL) do not change..AFAIK.

In general in the UK

HE..Usually No Limit or Pot Limit (in that order)
Omaha/Omaha Hi/Lo...Almost exclusively Pot Limit with occasional Limit (you might find No Limit, but I wouldn"t play it)
Stud/Razz/Stud 8..Limit
HORSE..Limit

In Vegas..if you can find anything other than Hold"Em (and you will have to search)..it will be Limit. You have to really search for Pot Limit games.

Then again, if you find an Omaha or Stud table, it"ll be full of local grinders...pretty low EV.

what about triple draw lowball. I notice its on stars. i read Daniel negreanau"s chapter on it and had a stab. cant say i did any good mind.

Is this game in the dealers choice domain? Has anyone played it live in anything other than dealers choice. Its certainly my favourite non HE game but dont think I"ll ever get to play it live.

I have played a tournament that was LHE for the first 3 levels and NL from then on... it was in Vegas, and I didn"t like it - why the hell I entered it I don"t know - but it exists.

And whilst I would agree that your description of the Vegas action is correct for regular daily tournaments and cash games, you will usually find PLO and/or PLO8 in the big "festivals" i.e. WSOP, Binions Poker Classic, Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

I think this sound like the Luxor (or was it Mandalay Bay)..I recall hearing about it...and I agree...why?

Indeed, the Orleans ran something simliar during WSOP 2007 Final Week...but as you say. for day to day use...tough to find anything other than HE.

With regards to vegas, Caesars Palace now do a $75 pot limit omaha tourney at 5pm on mondays and a $100 omaha hi-lo one at 6pm on wednesdays (not sure if this is limit or pot limit).
