Anybody know if the airlines ever discount the indirect flights?
I"m sure they do....but by segment. That is to say that you might find a discounted flight to NY, Chicago or Dallas, etc.
You"d have to work out the connection for yourself. They probably aren"t going to offer you a discount if you book the connecting flights together as a single transaction.
Of course, working out the connections is the fun part. Since you can try and score discounts from different airlines. The hassle is that your luggage has be be re-checked (if you use two airlines) and you might have added time due to changing terminals.
Like I said, fun.
Look at the old version (still live) of the
ITA Matrix site....it has a "Month" search function to show you the cheapest flights for any 30 day period.
Just remember to change the sales city to LON
Cheapest for November 2011 is (currently) £614 which is about what you"d pay on Virgin (cattle class).
That"s not to say that sales won"t appear later in the year though.
