What can i say about the WCOAP at The Vic in 2008? Probably not as much as some others could say tbh
Amazingly it was my last WCOAP and I"m stunned that 3 years have passed already and I missed 2 others.
Started Saturday on a tough table including Nigel Johnson, Jeldon Fernandez, Mark Redshaw and we had some early casualties, notably Mark on all-in flop with a nut flush draw with Jeldon flopping the 7-J staright. Took me a while to get going but I progressed slowly through the day while Nigel and Jeldon seemed to be hoovering up on a regular basis. I went out fairly late on the Saturday night and was then left with the full day Sunday to enjoy a few shandies as my hotel and flight were booked for the Monday.
So Sunday had none other than the Old Firm game screend live at the casino, followed by some dross churned out by the EPL (possibly Liverpool v ****nal but not really sure by the time I got to the 4pm kick off, maybe slight inebriation to blame for this
). At about 7pm and after a few (?) lagers, followed by a few (?) Jack D & coke I decided in my drunken wisdom to play a £1/£1 cash table (NB all you younger players out there, wisdom and drunken should never be accompanied by anything resembling poker)
I recall having around £90 in my pocket so cashed £50 of it to sit in the game. Realising I only had 50 BBs I decided not to get too involved but was forced on my first SB with Q/10 and others flatting/folding before me. the flop brought Q/10/2 and with £6 in the pot I bet out £4 only for the BB to min raise and a guy in LP to call so i duly added my other £4. Turn brought the bingo Q so I put out a £12 bet into the £30 pot, BB min raised again guy in LP called so I duly shoved my remainder. BB shoved behind (selfish bas***d scared off the LP guy
) and he flipped 10/10. Glad to say that single hand sent me on my way to turning that £50 into £750 by the time I left The Vic at 2am(ish).
During that 6/7 hours there were a few more drinks consumed, a bit of lively banter at and around the table, a very unfortunate introduction to Willie Chan
(more inebriation to blame for that 1) and some would say a bit of chastising from the management
. There was the occasional railing from a few of you APAT"ers but much of this I have no memory of, so please feel free to fill in the blanks
