The Spanish slow roll
« Reply #690 on: January 23, 2011, 22:10:28 PM »
It was about 22.30 on day one of the apat southern european championship. i had  7s 7h i raised pre to 1000, i got one caller, flop comes  ks 7c  td, i bet out on my set to 3000, the guy just flat calls, turn comes  4d, i raise he pushes and i see the bad news, he has  tc th. So now im down to 3200 of my stack, under the gun i push all in, i have  ac td, i want a call cause i need a double up but would be happy to take the blinds, Everybody folds till it comes to the big blind, he is spanish and in his mid 40s. He had about 35k, he waited appox 2-3 mins then called. i showed my  ac td he said to me while he stood, oh you have an ace, i said yes and then i said my ten kicker must be good, he showed me an ace  then 5 seconds later he threw down another ace and laughed in my face, never in my poker life has that ever happened to me before nor would i ever do that to a fellow poker player, i just took the high ground and walked over to rich and leigh and told them what just happened, they thanked me for not reacting or causing a scene.
There was a few apat players on the rail that seen what happened and were amazed i didnt hit him. Anyway about 15 mins later the spanish guy came over and said to me, im so sorry for what i did and that he didnt mean it, i shook his hand and asked him why he did it, he said he didnt know why he did it.
Just wanted to tell you all my story and see what you all think about what he did.

Thanks Damien -gunnerdamo

I remember this tale being told on the Sunday and I was amazed at your control. However what it does prove is you are the better man. But it still sucks, badly. I would like to think that I would retain dignity in the face of this, but I very much doubt it..

Respect Damien

Ah, so you"re gunnerdamo :)

I was unfortunately there to witness it "live" and I even found myself coughing "slowroll" when it happened. It was disgusting and you did well not to react - I know you were fizzing for the 30 mins it took him to apologise.

T"was good to meet you.

At least he came over to apologise. He was probably an inexperienced player and got such a hard on when someone shoved into his aces, he didn"t know how to react.

WP for keeping it real though - your dignified reaction only made him feel worse about himself

You told me about this just after it happened and you were obviously and understandably angry about it. Actually seeing all the details written down makes it seem even worse. I like to think I"m quite laid back and hard to upset but I"m not sure I would have been able to let it pass without some comment!

Anyway nice to meet you and to share a table for a few hours.

I"d forgotten about this incident, what with everything else going on last weekend.

Not sure how you held it together, but it was much appreciated, as Tighty and I didn"t really fancy a ruck in the casino.

At least he apologised, but much respect to you Damien, I think most players would have reacted.

I echo everybody sentiments here when I say "Very well done for holding your head" I doubt if I could have done the same and I am a total piss head pacifist.

Well played Damien
